What on earth is law enforcement doing? This smells like incompetence.

An update on the @FBI response at Brown University: @FBIBoston established a command post to intake, develop and analyze leads, and run them to ground. We activated the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team, to provide critical geolocation capabilities. As a result, early this morning, FBI Boston’s Safe Streets Task Force, with assistance from the @USMarshalsHQ & the @Coventry_RI_PD, detained a person of interest in a hotel room in Coventry, RI, based off a lead by the @ProvidenceRIPD.

Update: Person of Interest is now being released. listening to press conference right now...details fuzzy
No problem, plenty of other decoys to target in order to give the real perpetrator that doesn’t fit their narrative time to disappear.

It might be obvious but I want to clarify....is this a 'new' person of interest or the one that they released?

Reads as the person of interest they released.
Reading between the lines they traced cellphone data active at the scene and followed him to the hotel room.
In the initial reporting there was a person detained at the school itself and then released.

So this Ben Erickson guy was released? And we don't have any idea who the shooter was now?

Yes. Not sure the FBI/police confirmed the actual name at any point.
As far as they have told us there was not a new lead on a specific individual.

That was the one they initially reporting. The one released I will go clarify.

Thanks for clearing that up.

This is wild they have no idea who did this, or at least aren't sharing any details. In this day and age, getting away with something like this seems near impossible.

Benjamin Erickson served our country honorably for four years + volunteered at a horse rescue center and to thank him we ruined his Sunday and any future Google searches about him.
Imagine being completely innocent and being detained for something like this. It’s gotta be surreal

crazy that college campuses are gun free zones, but they have such a lack of security that someone can shoot up an Ivy League university for some time, leave campus and getaway for over a day. If you could carry on campus more bullshite would pop up day to day I'm sure but these mass shootings where humans turn into target practice would stop happening as much as they currently do.
While I agree with this, post covid there are still people wearing masks especially in large public areas like classrooms. To be fair I haven't been on a college campus in awhile but I'm assuming a super liberal place like Brown has them as I see them places like the grocery store, airport, etc.
But you throw in "masks" plus winter with beanies, hoods, jackets, and some sunglasses and there's not a whole lot left to be able to analyze.

I wouldn't make that assumption, they've got some weaponized autists now that will find you based on the brand of clothes they figure out.

give it time. the internet will find this piece of shite.

Was this just extremely well planned? Or did he get lucky?

The building was next to a neighborhood, and cops responding to an active campus shooter are likely looking at the building as being the starting point of a rampage not the exit point.
I obviously don’t know if any specific student was targeted, but the shooter had a specific goal involving the class, did it, and then stopped shooting and left before cops arrived. Kirk’s murderer did something a little similar but was a little farther from the neighborhood and carrying a rifle which he was forced to hide due to police starting to arrive (or maybe people from in neighborhood or off campus starting to appear around the neighborhood).
I read that back in 2021 Brown was reported to have had a high amount of campus security cameras. Some were critical about how much they could record (not sure how loud this criticism was), but I now wonder if in response to this they reduced the amount of cameras which is limiting what can be shown of the suspect (some students may have also pushed to have cameras limited during any hamas protests). You still wouldn’t get a face if covered, but it does seem like they would have had more footage released by now including some of shooter arriving at the building for the shooting unless campus cameras were reduced from 2021 levels.
