If “winning” involves ruling over an irradiated, apocalyptic wasteland.

Exactly. AI didn’t create itself. Human greed has never ended well over the course of history

I'm listening to a limited series podcast called "the last invention."

The title says it all. They use terms like a super intelligent AI "tolerating" humans, or wiping us out if we become a nuisance (like we would ants).

The moment one AI creates another AI, it's over.

Part of me thinks this is all overblown hype. Fear tactics to keep the workforce fearful and placated. There were supposed to be offshore boats full of indians who would take all our jobs 20 years ago. That didn't quite materialize. Red scare, WWIII, holes in the ozone...there's always something out there we're supposed to be afraid of.

My biggest concern with AI is that it’s going to become an energy succubus that we can’t pivot away from and we’re all going to have to go back to burning logs to keep our houses warm or pay $2/kWh.

We're heading to a Manor System. The powers that be will still need us to perform task AI won't be able to do effectively or efficiently. It's why you see more talk trying to push young men into plumbing and electrical.

Was there ever a “horse industry“ before cars? Ole Grand Pappy San Carlos never went to a horse dealership for a colt. He bread his horse with the stallion one farm over.

Someone hasn’t read Lonesome Dove or any other western book.

Just wait till 2027 with ai.

shite is going to get out of hand. And it's not even the ai that's the problem. It's the humans.

They did, but humans wrote those screenplays. AI will be writing the real world edition.

I am not encouraged.

People on the developed world aren’t having enough children. This will be our downfall. The US population, native born, will be 1/2 of what it is today in 100 years or less.

Uncle Ted has some good points but I think Wendell Berry, Jacques Ellul, and Ivan Illich are better at stating the problem with technological advancement. And they are much better at finding a solution that doesn’t promote violence.

My wife discovered the grok app and how it can turn photos into short clips. She uploaded a photo of us and used the word romantic to generate of short clip. The video was of me grabbing her tits, mugging down with her. We laughed but it is fricked up typing in romantic and in turn getting the start of a sex scene.
Post it here, we’ll be the judge of propriety and aesthetics.

TIA…

Seriously, I think our downfall is social media. We are in the downfall. Once social media started to be weaponized this country went crazy. AI might just be the finishing move.

I wish someone smarter than me would explain why we haven’t built nuclear plants in forever. I thought they were pretty good a generating power.
