t just seems that 2 officers could handle this pretty easily seeing that they had him on the ground. If there was space in between them, say 5 yards, and he goes for the gun then I believe they are free and should shoot. But this close up just seems as thought they should have been able to disarm him
Just like the JP deputy a couple weeks ago huh? Using your logic he should still be alive.

I haven't seen any police statements that are relevant.

Bull. The call was anonymous and they did not know his name much less that he was a convicted felon. Yes they did know of the report of him waving a gun. His arms were spread out in a submissive position. He was not moving. He did not get on the ground as they asked and then they tackled him. He was obviously not having a psychotic break

He didn't comply then he fought back after the taser didn't work. There was nothing subdued about him at any point.

They just showed the video on the news... get ready baws

Fought back? What video did you watch? Once they tackled him they were on top of him pretty quickly

Ok correction... You get called to go see a man waving a gun. Does that make it any less of a tense situation to begin with?
His arms were spread in a submissive position? He had been tazed twice and apparently still did not get on the ground. Is that normal behavior? It's probably closer to a psychotic break than normal behavior.

Flip side is if everything is on the up and up, the officers think they know he has a gun, once the taser doesn't faze him, they are immediately under the threat of return fire from a lethal weapon.
Which is likely the reason the one cop tackled him so fast because he probably didn't think he had time to unholster his glock if the subject returned fire
If you knew he had a gun, wouldn't you have gins drawn and keep a distance? These guys did the opposite, no guns and went for a tackle.
That doesn't seem to add up to the knowing all along he had a gun.
Now obviously, maybe they didn't know and he did go for the gun while he was down, that's certainly plausible.

You have to tell cops you have a gun. You just have to. If you are a felon and carrying a gun because that's what you have to do to keep safe, and you REALLY dont want to go back to prison, then keep your fricking head down and dont attract attention. If you don't keep your head down, and you don't want to give up your gun, then fight the cops to the death. There aren't any other solutions.
He did a lot wrong, and two seconds of thought would have told him the likely outcome.

And he was fighting back. I didn't say he started it.
Posted on 7/5/16 at 10:04 pm to LSUTANGERINE
He clearly fought back. After he was on his back on the ground with 2 people on him he lurched forward off the ground like he was attempting to get up. That's with 2 people trying to hold him down. Go watch it again. It's right before they say he has a gun. He is the only one that could create that force to lift his body off the ground when 2 grown men are on top of him.

We don't know how it started. When the cops pull up he might just be standing there. It was an anonymous tip. Not the store owner. Maybe they had the tasers out? Maybe they somewhat knew him and just wanted to talk. He's been there for years selling. They've likely seen him before. We can only guess.

Sandra Sterling, an aunt who said she raised Alton after his mother died, was skeptical her nephew would be carrying a gun.
His family's been duped:

Sterling’s court record shows he was accused of several crimes dating back to 1996. He’d pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, simple criminal damage to property and unauthorized entry, as well as domestic abuse battery. His longest sentence appeared to come in 2009, when he was sentenced to five years on possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and illegally carrying a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.
Was just a good ol' baw

Somebody posted they had their tasers drawn first, so it appears they were trying not to use lethal force at this point. As others have mentioned, we don't have the dashcam/audio yet

Reached for the gun while on the ground.
Got what he deserved.
End of story.

And if they went straight to guns and killed him y'all would be bitching because they didn't have tasers. fricking hypocrites.
