Going to be interested to see if the media pivots to what looks like an actual injustice in Minnesota and stops worry about this nonsense in Baton Rouge.

It's pretty much certain this is going to happen. The real key if it will is if we have video of the actual shooting like in BR, that's what made this thing go viral.

My guess is that most people across the board would not "comply" if set upon by police officers. Fight or flight would kick in, and you would do one or the other.

And you would be wrong. And these cops did not approach Alton aggressively. You act like they came in with guns drawn.

12 means police

Interesting how slang changes. When I was in high school, 12 meant a jury. "I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6" meaning, I'd rather kill someone and take my chances in court than let someone kill me.

How would you prefer the decision making process to go when a thug is trying to get his gun out during a struggle with police?

Didn't the orgianl call to police state that Alton had a gun? I'm pretty sure they knew he had one and is why they were trying to subdue him.

Not entirely fair here in the context of Alton Sterling, but I take your point. Also, a whole lot of us, including me, are armed. And if I were a cop, I'd say that would make me a little edgy.

Alton brought this on by not complying and resisting all non-lethal methods, period. The sickening part of this is where is all this outrage when the blacks kill each other daily?

Agree hundred percent. He'd be alive taking his morning shite right now if he had just complied.

Yeah. I don't know what kind of moron thinks that the majority of people would be combative with police.

My son is half Hispanic and I've told him whenever interacting with cops be respective. Answer with Yes sir and No sir. Don't answer intrusive questions if you feel they aren't warranted. We have lawyers for a reason. Don't be a disrespectful little shite. If you're pulled over at night put the cab lights on. Do whatever you can to remain calm and in control so you don't in turn make a cop nervous.

And if you ever get arrested don't fight back. Say nothing. Call me and we'll get a lawyer.

Well, we don't know that, do we? We do know (I think) that they tazed him.

Ever had a gun or a tazer pointed at you? I have. I'd say it looked aggressive to me.

I'd say you are assuming facts you don't know. Maybe I am too.

It's still this in the USMC.

fricking Rules of Engagement, but that's for a different thread.

Yes, we do actually. We know that they originally just talked to him, but he was non-compliant. That conversation escalated things, so they tried to taze him twice, but it did absolutely nothing to him. Then the one officer tackled him to the ground to try and subdue him, which was when he started fighting back.

So, we have a suspect that may have a gun. It was showing, and the police used three different methods to try and detain him without pulling guns.

If you are armed "legally" you have nothing to worry about. Open carry and the cops would see it. If concealed the first thing you are supposed to do is let the officer know. In both instances I would let the cop disarm me and if necessary restrain me and be completely ok with it. The thing is the more comfortable the cop is the more likely you will get shown more respect.

there's a lot of inner city work done on a daily basis you and i know very little about. there's a lot of outrage within the black community over black on black crime. it doesn't get media attention, though. it's not as "sexy" to the media as some white swimmer raping a girl.

Yeah. Reason it'll be interesting is because the MN looks like a case that will be way less divisive. I think 99% of people will be against the cop. In contrast, BR is much closer to a 50-50 split.

Part of the reason I think race baiters pick shite martyrs is they are more divisive. They can play the us versus them. They won't be able to do that in Minnesota because the them will be very, very small.

How many laws did Alton break before he was shot?

1) Illegal distribution of Copyright Material
2) Brandishing a weapon
3) Resisting Arrest
4) Concealing a firearm without a permit
5) Possessing an illegal firearm as a felon

If he had not broken any one of those laws, would he still be alive?

Yeah. Actually I have had police draw and aim their guns at me. You know what I did. I put my damn hands up and complied with their commands. I got my ticket (fricking seat belt violation and they drew down) and went on my way.
