at time of op it was supposed to be going to dallas, but updated after he posted

it looks like it is adding the nebraska place in the future upcoming log, but today must be the first day

Why is it flying so low?

That seems odd.

This is one of American's little regional airline flights, I believe. Wonder if it's a smaller plane?

What does that mean? Something intentional by the pilots/crew? If so, then maybe that is good news?

yeah so it's basically a 4 digit code you manually input for ATC to identify you, you change it to 7700 if emergency, 7600 if radio failure, 7500 if hijacking, and it alerts ATC that you need their help

probably will end up being nothing, I followed some accounts that tweet out when an emergency squawk is sent, but this one was different because it was heading so far off course

Wasn't there an older pilot dude who used to post a lot on this board?

I’ve worked a whole bunch of emergencies over the years. They almost always have a safe conclusion and get little to no media coverage.

I was just on this flight last week except DFW to Garden City. It's just a little regional flight that flies in and out of Garden City twice daily.

Just a wild arse guess - but at that altitude, it may be a pressurization issue. 12000 feet is the highest altitude (for non-pressurized aircraft) that can be flown on an IFR flight plan for more than 30 minutes without requiring the pilots to use oxygen.

have to do some digging, looks like they filed for a higher altitude, if they were diverting to a close by airport, no need to go that high

that makes sense

seems like the nebraska airport has some normal flights to dallas so maybe they picked that airport as the closest that they could divert to which they could also easily get their passengers to dallas
