Is the rodeo as internationally known, confined, and frankly, as popular as Mardi Gras?

Don't know about that, but was in Houston in late Feb/early Mar and the traffic around that area was backed up like crazy. Was told by locals that it was because of the rodeo. Think it draws about 2.5 million.

I'm trying to square that with the Houston area who kept running the rodeo until March 11 and is a much-bigger "port city."

My understanding is that the 1st reported case in Galveston County (my home county) and two cases in Montgomery and Brazoria counties were people who were attending the rodeo cook-off and came into contact with each other. I would bet there's more related than just these three. Here's the story from Channel 13:

Brazoria, Montgomery, Galveston County cases tied to rodeo cook-off tent

No clue. I know nothing about rodeo, the rodeo circuit or who follows it. Went to a small one when I was about 10; that's the extent of my experience.

My dad has been pretty good about it (uses hand sanitizer religiously), but he still plays golf 3-4 times a week. They've shut down the clubhouse, can have only 1 person per cart (they sanitize them), no scorecards/pencils provided and ask that they keep a distance from each other. No flag poles.

Thank God my dad isn't a hard head. I told him from day one to stay his arse home and I'll bring him groceries and he's fine.

It seems like the younger crowd.. The late teen, early 20s crowd don't give a single frick about coronavirus.

Yesterday I saw 3 or 4 of them fishing off a pier and swimming in the bayou and a boat with another 2 or 3 pulled up. Saw some people having a crawfish boil... Looked like a birthday part or something.

I know it sucks to put things on hold especially when the weather is nice, but I want this shite to be over with. People keep coming into contact with other people then go somewhere else where there are people.. That's a good way to keep that shite spreading and we need those numbers to start going down.

My cousin threw a huge fit because no one would come to her gender reveal two weeks ago when the Governor starting shutting shite down. Tried to shame my almost 90 year old Grandmother over not going and got her arse chewed for being a moron.

We also haven’t been able to have the SO’s daughter for her regular visitation because the SO’s ex doesn’t believe in social distancing, her fiancé is a window licker, and now they’re all quarantined due to contact with another family that has COVID-19 (they apparently had a big birthday party for one the neighbor’s kids last week). We had already discussed having to not see her for awhile while this was going on due to my Mom’s recent cancer diagnosis and the SO’s Mom having a ton of underlying conditions too. And we can’t trust his ex to actually do social distancing. She wasn’t even teaching the kid how to properly wash her fricking hands.

I can’t begin to talk about how stupid these people are.

Assuming it isn’t a large boil with people driving over from all over the place, I don’t see the harm in neighbors boiling crawfish outdoors. We did it 6 of us yesterday. Nobody hung out inside and no food was provided except the crawfish fresh out of the boil pot. Used two tables for 6 people for distancing.

Seems a lot safer than trekking to the grocery store, TBH.

If its 6 or 7 people who are being responsible by not getting too close that's one thing, but I am talking about a.. what looked like a family gathering crawfish boil/some type of party (birthday, etc).

If any of those people were around someone who was a carrier and they became a carrier. Going to a gathering of 20+ people who seemed to have no concept of social distancing is a good way to keep it spreading.

But I do agree with going to the grocery store. Even thought its limited, there are still people coming in an out all day.

Yeah, the stores make the most uneasy.

I think the retired-aged folks who rely on errands for their entertainment are struggling SO and his brother had to get harsh with their mom this weekend. She's just the type that hits several stores pretty much every day, so that's a hard habit to break when they're all still open.

My parents are the opposite. They won't drive to the store for random things. They do a large weekly shop.

Just let them do it. Civilization has to thin the herd somehow.

If only the same were applied to the elderly and sick with the flu, those numbers might plummet.
