Youngest daughter. She was seated in the middle backseat separating her two brothers for reasons you might expect.
She was four; her brothers seven and six. Seven says, “Dad Four’s turning purple is choking, I think.”
We had just turned off Highland headed to Louie’s old location. I stopped in the middle of the street, hopped out and grabbed Four from the back seat and swung her out of the car.
By sheer coincidence I had both hands locked just below her ribs and the pressure exerted swinging her around blew the piece of candy out with a loud pop. Six had already opened the back door and Seven had unlocked her car seat belt. All I really did was reach in and try to get her out where I could do the maneuver. The boys showed their character and quick thinking in a crisis early in life.
Four just gave Mrs M and I our tenth grandchild this past November.
Praise God.

I eat very quickly and as Ive gotten older it seems like I produce less saliva and the esophagus is less pliable. I have to be really careful now to drink plenty when eating starchy food and chew a lot more.

Be careful eating peanut butter. Sticking a big chunk of it in your mouth is dangerous.

Here's my post from last year.
Like in the moment you think "this is it, this is how I die "
I almost died Sunday night. In the kitchen by myself and my fatty arse was eating a slice of hangover cake. Got stuck halfway down. Couldn't cough it up. Couldn't breathe. After a few seconds I started trying to heimlich myself on the lip of the sink.
It starts to get dark. I feel myself fading. And I think. "49, survived 18 months in Afghanistan... choked on cake."
Anyway, sink dislodged it. Still thinking about it

My son, aged 9 or 10 at the time, took a large bite of fried mozzorella at an Italian restaurant one time. He was seated next to me and he was trying to not panic and be quiet because we were in a public, formal setting. After struggling with it quietly for 15-20 seconds, he started to tap then hit me on the thigh. My wife at the time was a nurse, but she was pinned in by the circular booth seating. I had to do the heimlich on him and we were able to get it out without too much commotion, but the whole restaurant was watching and was relieved once it was over. That was ~15 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Very scary.

My daughter had to be Heimliched in sixth grade. Thankfully the PE coach was in the cafeteria and on the ball.

I’ve been chocked on food several times over the years Dysphagia Is what I have. I see Dr McDonald (Gastroenterologists) in Baton Rouge, the best doctor I’ve ever had. Now when I start getting chocked just a bit I go get it checked out. They put you to sleep, go in and open my throat up Nothing more scary than not being able to breathe. Been to the ER a couple times. I strongly suggest if happens again to go see a Gastroenterologist

My mom once saved my uncle from choking using the heimlich and broke a couple of his ribs in the process. True story.
He was eating lunch with my mom, grandma, his daughter, and his young (maybe 3 or 4) grandson. He choked on a piece of toasted French bread. He was fully choking and starting to panic. Mom said all she could think was, "All I could imagine was him choking to death in front of his daughter and grandson. I didn't really know what I was doing, but it worked!"
She apologized to my uncle numerous times, feeling bad that she hurt him in the process. He would always tell her not to worry about it because she did what she had to do to save his life.

Glad you’re ok. It’s scary as hell! Worlds Fair 1984, sitting down with 3 friends and one of their dads. Drinking a coke and one of those big pieces of ice with the cylindrical hole down the middle got stuck in my throat. Luckily I coughed it backed up but I was terrified. And the girls dad sat there and laughed. The POS!

Back in late 1974 or so my parents went on a European trip and while they were eating in a restaurant in England, a piece of meat lodged in her throat and my mother started choking. Fortunately, right before the trip, my father had just happened to see a news story about the new Heimlich maneuver, and he calmly got up and saved her life. Thank God!

Twice. My stepdad gave me a Heimlich after I choked at dinner on a piece of a sandwich as a kid.
Then, my first month in college, I tried dry scooping a complete serving of protein powder. Never do that. My roomie was staring at me as I choked, and I barely used my finger to get enough of it out of my mouth to breathe again. It was far enough down that I couldn't breathe through my nose, either.

Scary as chit. So helpless feeling.
Glad all is well, and tip of my hat to your daughter.
Happened to me when very young from hard candy lodged deep. Parents heimlicked me.
Put fear in them, me…and is one of worst fears (of children…they cough in certain way, and I get on red alert).

When we were kids my sister choked on a cocoa puff. She was eating with one of those like cough syrup type spoons, so had to sort of slurp it out. One of those Cocoa Puffs when straight down and I had to give her the Heimlich. It shot across the room. Was very scary, it took a while to get it out.

Yes, but then your mom uncrossed her legs.

Anyone here ever choked
I’ve come close several times. I tend to bite pieces of steak too big. I had to self heimlich once and came close a couple more times where I was preparing to do so and it cleared.
Scary.

I did the heimlich maneuver on a woman at an eatery in Bay St Louis 30 years ago,,,took 4 thrust but I saved her. Back story I’m a paramedic so it wasn’t as huge of a deal Apparently wasn’t a huge deal for her rather, she went back to eating. She was a big ole girl too
