I know hundreds of Catholics and they all want these pedophiles outed and prosecuted. Nothing "engrained" there. Every singe one of them thinks these people are evil.

That doesn’t really change the fact that church leadership has been raping children for decades and decades (centuries?) and they systematically and deliberately covered it up.

The whole reason the archdiocese of new orleans went bankrupt is the many, many child rapes.

Again, I don’t see an apology for this.

The letter makes no mention that protecting predators and shuffling them to new unsuspecting communities should also be considered an inexcusable evil and hideous crime.

Boy Scouts is close, but agree burn it down and restart.

I haven’t gave $$ to my church since all this came out because I don’t want my $$ being used for payouts

An apology is certainly needed. Is this THE apology? Guessing it is, it’s good but probably not sufficient for many.

There should be an apology for the cover up. There should be apology for the failure of leadership.
And the apology should be forced to be read in each and every service at mass for the next year.

Then there needs to be penance. Something to show that they realize the harm.

Otherwise, I have always wondered if Aymond was involved and in what way.

Requirements for "celibate" priests passively selects for deviancy. It ain't natural.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond issued a written apology to victims as part of the church's Chapter 11 bankruptcy settlement agreement.

Sounds sincere and authentic.

You dont have to go to church to know your God.

You should if you want Him to know you.

Do you think a teacher would know his students if they don’t show up to class? Or would a shepard know his sheep if they weren’t in the pasture with him, and he there amongst them? Should the students demand the teacher come to them or the sheep tell the shepard that he has to shepard each of them individually in the spot where they stand? Why would anyone presume (or demand) that God would go out of his way to come to them individually where they are? He very well may out of the graciousness of his heart. But may is a dangerous thing when it comes to praising and worshipping the Lord. Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20.

Jesus went amongst the people, including large gatherings (the Sermon on the Mount) to teach and so that those present could praise the Lord. Jesus taught to an audience (the Apostles in the least) in nearly everything He did on earth, including after His Resurrection. The Acts of the Apostles and Paul speak of gatherings of early Christians to be taught, receive Communion, and to praise the Lord. Christianity would have been dead on arrival had there not been gatherings of Christians to learn the ways of Christ and to worship the Lord and to spread the Lord’s Word. Christianity and our faith was not grown or spread by house calls then, and is not grown or spread by house calls now. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t praise and worship the Lord in your home. You should. But leaving your home and going to where we know the Lord is present to worship Him is a root and foundation of individual faith.

Yeah. Those weekly reports of Catholics strapping on explosive vests and blowing up shopping markets proves that.

Catholics don't need violence anymore. They earned all their wealth through violence and fraud centuries ago, and they own enough politicians now.

I’m a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, and not really happy with the current situation with the church but, my family and myself have never felt threatened by the Catholic Church at any time.

Fortunately for you, you've never been a peasant in pre-democratic england.

Never had a priest.

If I was going to join a cult or criminal organization I'd pick a fun one.

As an atheist, I always get a chuckle out of these threads where Democrat voters, who openly support child grooming, come in to these threads to declare their hatred for Christians and then their support for Islam or other religions.

Don't pretend you own some moral high ground.

Who are these Democrat posters you speak of? The Catholic Religion has tolerated, promoted, and covered up the Homosexual lifestyle for centuries. It’s well documented. Not sure what Catholic Religion failures have to do with any other religion? I’m not religious at all and think they are all fantasy and a way to try to control people.

Too bad. They spent most of their existence stealing from communities.

What good would any of that do? You have names and addresses of the pedo priests - then what? YOU commit a crime seeking revenge?

That sure would be a real shame.
