re: Are cats underrated pets?

I’ve owned dogs and cats, and there are breed specific issues with either. Labs were always my favorite dog breed, and we currently have a 22lb Maine Coon male that is cool as hell. Never really was a cat person, but he is more dog like than any other cat I’ve seen.I can’t stand a house that smells like a litter box, and usually it’s because the owner is too lazy to maintain it. Our cat is indoor/outdoor and since the litter box gets cleaned daily, our house doesn’t smell. He was neutered early and never sprays. Everyone has different experiences with dogs and cats. I like them both, and would recommend a Maine Coon over a Siamese, just like I’d prefer a Lab over a neurotic Chihuahua…

Cats are awesome to have outside. Cats in your house are disgusting
Not as disgusting as having a dog in your house

Easy to clean up, no early morning walks, low maintenance, and cats are genuinely hilarious to watch. Kill any bugs or critters around the house. You can leave 2-3 days and they will be fine. Vet care is way cheaper too
All of that plus you don’t have to give them a bath

“No matter how cool your cat is, you still have a box of shite in your house.”

We have had 4 cats. The first one was from the Humane society and a great cat. The next two were brothers from Humane Society and were kinda wild and liked to be outside but tolerable. The last cat was a British Shorthair.. beautiful cat but total a-hole. You couldn’t pet it unless it was on his terms or he would attack you . Would also piss in the litter box and would take one shite in a new box… after that , he would poop in the floor next to the box ( yes it was clean). Didn’t matter he would just poop in the floor … hated that cat and won’t EVER have another one

Sounds like an idiot who didnt train his cats right
You are correct.
I am too dumb to train these cats to brush themselves and not have shite that smells.

had only been cat adjacent until this past year
would not trade mine for anything
I am a cool guy, mine reflect their owner, don't give a shite what anybody thinks about it.
Just fix them if you've got them.

I bought the cheap one that rakes it after each use.
Sometimes the shite is too soft and gets caught in the rake or the cat jumps in for round 2 and makes a second drop when the rakes are on the other side taking care of the first drop. So it pushes the shite on the wrong side.
Plus the paper trays get expensive. So I go cheap, I empty out the collection bin and put some crystal litter in the box for a third the cost of a new tray. Eventually the paper does wear down and you need a new tray. They are 26 dollars each.

cats are cool AF and not nearly as needy as dogs. I love golden retrievers and labs but damn goldens need constant attention

I dont mind a good semi-feral barn cat. The kind that never let's you get close to it, doesnt really want you to even see it, is always watching you, and leaves you a tribute of dead stuff by the door of the barn each morning.
As for cats in the house, frick no.

I was sitting on the throne this morning and my German Shepherd walked in the bathroom and started growling at me as though she was a bitchy wife. She just needed to make a drop too outside.

We used cheap litter and changed the drawer out once a week.
Thing paid for itself very quickly.

Do you use the clay or sandy clumping litter?
The tray that my automatic litter box uses comes with a crystal like litter.
This is the litter box I have:
I just noticed they make a plastic or stainless steel tray for these boxes now. Will be the first thing I buy today for 40 bucks. Will pay for itself after 2 litter box tray changings.

I inherited one in a bad relationship, we had "off white" carpet in the house and the stinking piece of crap would throw up this orange mess all over it.
The stains were impossible to get up without shampooing it, then two days later the cat would puke all over it again.
