Gas station attendants pumping your gas is the only reason to visit NJ, imo.

I wish Louisiana would do this

I never tip. But thats only because I have a hard stance against New Jersey as a whole, and because its retarded I have to let someone else do it for me.

If enough people stop tipping they might just let me do it on my own.

Then you'll bitch about the guy, who was formerly employed pumping your gas, asking for handouts at the corner.

No. I just wont give him any. If he stops getting hand outs he might find another profession.

See how that works?

You can't in Oregon either. It's weird to me.

They also have (or had) a chain of tire chain places where the guys run from station to station, which was also weird

No tip. Give them your credit card. The attendant will ask you for your zipcode.

It is against the law to pump your own gas in NJ.

Born, raised, and worked as a gas jockey in NJ. Tip completely not expected, but everyone likes free money.

When it is 5 degrees outside it's nice to not have to get out of the car. Most places also check your oil and your "fluids" at no charge. After they're done cleaning your windows.
The idea of not having someone clean my windows while my car was being gassed up and being serviced was weird to me when I moved to BRLA.
Having to pump your own gas was like moving to a third world country in some ways

I tried to tip at Sonocco once and the attendant told me he wasn't allowed to accept gratuity.

I live in NJ. These are not union jobs. But many jobs would be lost if self-service was made legal. I am female and love not pumping my own gas especially when it's cold, windy, rainy. Most places do not check fluids or wash windows unless you ask them to and if you request those things I feel you should tip. But just for pumping gas...no tip ever.

30 years ago people were bitching because they were having to start pumping their own gas.

No, you don't tip them and they don't expect it. They make normal wage so it's not like tipping your server
