So you think having millions more people hooked on their product would reduce the fighting? And it'd be better overall for US society?

I don't think millions more would be hooked....there is no indication that they would be other than illogical fear. I absolutely know that it'd be far better for the industry to be legit and regulated than not, on both sides of the border. A sizeable part of the immigration problem we have in the US is due to illegal drug production in central America and transportation through Mexico. Were it legal here most of the region where it is produced would immediately legalize the manufacturing and shipment to the US because the revenue that they could steal would be immense. Making it a legit industry, and a massively profitable one at that, which was regulated, would mean higher production quality with less risk to the user and it would make the products cheaper in real costs because we wouldn't be fighting a "war". When alcohol was prohibited, and even where it is today, the demand is no less and was no less, but the crime associated with prohibition is extremely expensive and costly. The same can be said of prostitution, gambling, the list is exhaustive. There are only 2 items I can think of which should be illegal for adults to agree to trade money for, child porn and murder for hire. Outside of that the state should not be in the business of telling citizens what bad habits they can and can't have. Tobacco is legal and no drug ever introduced to mankind has ever wrought the devestation that tobacco has caused.

Ha, holy shite you live in a fantasy world. Did the underground illicit drug trade for pot and other drugs that are legal in places like California and Illinois completely go away once it was legalized (and the violence that came with it)?

You think that the cartels would be totally fine with the government saying "we're gonna make it legal and we just need to tax you 30% of your profits"?

That is why every MFer waving a Mexican flag here needs to be deported. Let them learn to appreciate what they once had.

So you think they are killing each other over drugs and how they make people feel? bwaaah. I'm not saying either way how I feel about legalization, but I can promise you THOSE dudes and all of the ones like them would be extinct once legal.
