One of the biggest thrills in life is getting to coordinate with an 18 wheeler keeping pace with you in the lane that is closing ahead to prevent people from racing ahead to break in line in front of all the people that merged already. A friendly wave and you allow him to cut in front of you as the lane is ending. I guess all those signs should read “Hey dumbass, your lane is ending in 1500 feet, merge now, yes this means you”.

It keeps the open lane moving at a much greater speed since those in it don’t have to come to a complete stop ahead to allow all the inconsiderate people to merge in at the last minute.

No it’s the people who try to cut instead of zipper merge.
Happened to me yesterday. Let a truck in then some wine mom gassed it and cut me off instead of zippering behind me. If I don’t slam my brakes we were getting in an accident and causing more traffic.

It’s counterintuitive, but if you have already merged like you should have, you will greatly improve the flow of traffic ahead of you if you leave 3-4 car lengths in front of you.
All the tards and the distracted drivers will usually enter there without causing everyone to stop. Of course some will pass up the engraved invitation just to squeeze in two cars ahead but that’s on them. .
Think about it. You will never see anyone not get in. All you do when you refuse to let anyone over is cause the whole lane to slow or even stop when they are forced to squeeze in. And guess what? That car will be in front of you by then and stopping everyone ahead of you.
Stay cool. Leave a space

I don’t let a certain demographic merge in front of me because they never acknowledge it in return.
I also don’t allow them to turn out of a driveway and get in front of me anymore, because they can’t take a moment to say thanks.

There were multiple signs starting a mile ago that told you the lane was ending, and yet you did jack and shite until the absolute last second. It's not a proper zipper merge to bring a lane to a halt because you didn't plan, and then cause the continuing travel lane to adjust to your idiocy. Merge at speed and have a plan.

NO. Trying to “zipper” too soon, which isn’t zippering at all, is what holds up traffic the most.
