Be cool to just sit there all day and buy the best value no reserve vehicle possible, regardless if you like it or not.

The Corvette world is watching to see how the 1969 ZL-1 will sell. Est between 2.6-3M. A lot of questions have surrounded this car and its authenticity.
Appears to be extensively documented and is Bloomington Gold. As I recall they are pretty damn thorough. Got a link to the questioners?

Barret-Jackson is an incredible experience. Went 2 years ago and had a blast.
Go check out the Levrack booth.

I recently had mine restored but not back to exact original. It now has a 350 Chevy engine. It still needs a few things I can do myself I just need to get it done.

Here you go. Get comfortable, this is a long read with a lot of data and opinions. Some of the comments unfortunately stray off topic.

Funny my old man had a 69 vette with the 427. Had to sell when my brother was born back in the early 80’s. It needed to be restored but was in decent condition. Think he sold it for like 8 grand. He still kicks him self when he sees how much a car like that goes for at these auctions.

I’ll be there Thursday. Work “team building” event.

Stories like one that is so often repeated and sometimes the reasons for selling are sad as well.
If his was the L71 tri-power, I can totally understand his regrets. Even a small block in good shape and options can bring good money.

Having owned an all original musclecar I will say I got very tired of the paperwork nazis. Especially the guys that question everything while never having an intention of actually buying the car.
Much prefer something not so original that I can take out and actually drive hard now and then.

My old man sold a '67 427/435 (tri power) 4 speed in Marlboro Red for $2500 in 1974.

I’m sure they’ll be a lot of sophisticated people at that auction and not a lot of rich rednecks buying shite.

You noticed some of those in the discussion. I don't mind it...to a point. There are a lot of fakes out there and sometimes that is what separates them from the real deal, especially when big money changes hands. The real problem in the early vette years is when the production moved from from St Louis to Bowling Green, almost all data sheets were destroyed by fire. So, that brought out the scammers and the easy targets.

Absolutely. I know a few owners that the only time their cars see daylight is on Saturdays on a trailer and then rolled to a parking spot. Ask them if they want to do a group cruise? They follow in their trucks

The crowd on Saturday last year was pretty diverse in the general admission. The bidding floor is generally just old rich people. And their 25 year old 'assistants'

My dad had one of those when I was growing up. They looked so damn cool but it was a rough ride and it always broke down. I really want one.

Olds is the same. No factory records so build sheets are king and not all cars even had them in the car. A lot were just loose in the interior and were thrown out by the dealer before delivery. I've gone through a number of cars over the years and found no build sheets. And these were just parts cars. Not rare/desirable cars.
Pretty sure it's not just Corvettes, but all Chevrolets from that era have no factory records.
Pontiac guys have it made as I understand it. Can get the options for any VIN from the musclecar era anyway. Ford and Mopar as well.

What's the buyer and seller fees on the sale?
IIRC it's up to at least 10% from each. Seems it was like 6% when I first started watching years ago.
I always like the first few days (based on tv broadcast) as the vehicles are more affordable and interesting to me....
A friend goes to a Mecum auction every other year at least. Treats it like a massive car show.
