Finally got feedback from the White Oak Plantation area.
ROW runs through the woods near Jones Creek from Harrells Ferry substation. It is overgrown and 2 poles snapped.

If you’re courteous and direct with the linesmen on the ground they’re usually very straightforward with what the plan is and how much longer the work will need to go on. But I guess if you’re not in the area that becomes trickier
Yeah, got that info from a lineman yesterday afternoon when I was over there. He made it sound like it was imminent. Obviously that was not correct. Wasn’t able to swing by today.

Our power has returned to Broadmoor at 5:37 PM. Thanks to everyone. I pray that every one gets theirs back this evening. One plus from this event is that I can function on one meal a day.

There hasn’t been a lineman or bucket truck in JT for at least two days.
I’m being positive about my situation, but it does suck to see all these other neighborhoods go green and our huge area of JT, Westminster and Drusila stay red. Glad for all you folks with power though.

Watch your arse in Broadmoor. It’s 6pm and the crews that have been sitting on their asses for the last 3 hours are headed for their hotels, beer and porn flicks.
Ever think they might be waiting on other people, other things, word from down the line before they start doing something and maybe get killed?
I swear you ingrates don’t know shite about electricity, or infrastructure, and think it’s as simple as hanging a wire back up and flipping a switch

Sure, I understand that process. But when a dozen trucks full of linemen congregate in clusters on 4 or 5 streets every day no later than 3 PM, and no one gets out of their truck or looks up for the next 3 hours, I get a little suspicious. Then, they all spring to life at exactly 6 PM and haul arse, then it’s pretty clear they’ve been milking it in mass numbers for hours.
Maybe that’s what their contract allows. If so, someone needs to get off their asses and put an end to those kinds of contracts.
Oh, and this is day 2 of the exact same thing. Show up at 8, start moving at 10. Hit it hard till 2 or so, then go into sandbag mode.

We live very close to the plantation and our power came back on today around 1/2ish.
The plantation also has power and the other houses on spillers way.

Man I understand it’s frustrating and seems like they are all standing around with their thumb up their arse but it’s a process, there’s all sorts of permits, utilities, locates, checking and double checking. JSA’s, etc.
Doesn’t do you much good restoring one utility if you knock out 3 more because you didn’t wait for the proper info before doing it.
Not to mention these are primarily out of town guys, so they don’t have the benefit of working in the area and at least having a general idea of where the other utilities are. Not to mention you have no clue what is happening with the wires feeding them.
I assure you their supervisors aren’t having them sit around for no good reason but sometimes the orders are to hurry up and wait. They might be a waiting on a part, or a safety issue, etc.

Energizing substations and closing breakers via SCADA doesn’t require linemen to be up in buckets doing work.
Didn’t see anyone distinguish energizing a sub versus the distribution lines. Makes sense.

Power back in Southdowns by Lee Hyacinth - apparently also back in lots of the areas that had it but lost again yesterday

Welcome to the hood
Do you think your problem might be that tree on the line a little past the Antioch/monitor/george O’Neal intersection?
The neighborhood across from yours got power when Shenandoah did.
So weird we are all in the same area but came up (or didn’t) at different times.

Broadmoor was hit much harder in Gustav. And no crew was available for a week or so to do anything. But then a crew the size this one rolled in and power was restored to 80% or more of the homes in one day.
We’re extremely fortunate that a huge crew showed up so quickly this time . But this massive crew has been here for two full days and not a single light bulb has been turned on. Maybe a switch will be thrown soon and all their work will pay off.
Its easy to see when hard work is being done and I’m in awe of their skills. But it’s also obvious when nothing is being done. With the extent of problems Louisiana is facing, if this is the productivity we should accept, then the staggering troubles and the related expenses will be magnified many times over.

Every sub’s feeder at the sub can be opened and closed remotely.
The feeders will have 3 types of protective devices: Reclosers, Trip Savers and Fuses.
On the main trunk/feeder you will see a good bit of reclosers, laterals could use reclosers, trip savers or fuses, and end of feeder radial lines will normally use fuses.
Reclosers can be programmed to close up to 4x; open and closing to see if a fault is temporary. These can be closed remotely when faults that have caused the opening have been fixed. Uses microprocessor based relaying and can be coordinating well with other devices on the line.
Trip savers are a poor man’s recloser. They will try to close up to 2x to see if a fault is temporary before locking open. Not much automation to close remotely. Fixed trip curves on these devices. Saves on trips out if the reclose holds.
Fuses blow, then a guy in a bucket truck has to go out there to replace them.
They will have guys out along feeders on the ground when closing in feeders for energization to coordinate a quick fix if one is needed.
