The crap that the FDA has allowed to pass as food in this country is also culpable here. I've heard too many stories of people going to Europe and shredding lbs only to pack them back on as soon as they return.
When it comes to weight loss its calories consumed vs calories burned. You could eat straight high fructose corn syrup and as long as you are burning more than you’re consuming you will lose weight.
Food quality as it pertains to health is a completely different issue.

OP picked a sin that doesn't impact him and judges millions of people for it. Very Christian.
What's interesting to me is how many people on this board act so superior about this issue.
What are we up to, about 75% of American adults are overweight or obese?
So my first observation is that there is NO WAY that this board is a statistical outlier in that broad demographic. I don't believe for a hot second that magically 80% of the people who post here maintain an ideal weight.
Which leads me to believe that there are some idiots posting here about other people being fat when they are fat themselves. I think there are people posting about "fatties" who think they aren't really fat because they are only 25 lbs overweight instead of 75.
Secondly, I also do not believe that all of a sudden the vast majority of the country fell victim to the sin of gluttony starting in 1980. Something changed with our food or something. It just keeps going up.
Third, all that said, the OP isn't wrong. It's a persistent sin that we need to do everything we can do to repent of. It's not o.k. to simply throw up your hands and stop battling it.

Portion sizes crept up. All you can eat buffets. People stopped smoking as much. Food industry switched to hyper palatable foods that are laden with corn syrup and salt.
There are sociological changes as well. American culture shifted to an indoors, shut-in lifestyle. This lowers exposure to benefits of sunshine and its psychological impact on developing minds. Overfed on junk food and never breathing fresh air. Yeah, it's a real mystery why people are fat.

Forgot…normalized. Seeing obese people around you your entire life makes it too normal.
Go walk around a European country and see their normal. It’s big time noticeable.

This is true. People tend to underestimate their bodyfat percentage. The mirror tells lies. Want a good idea of actual body composition? (Besides getting calipers, or some special scale or test.) Have someone else take a full body picture. You'll see what you actually look like to other people.

Look everyone has a fault somewhere. For some it’s food.

They took that line as literal as possible.
It’s also what makes the devil so dangerous, only looking at things through a tiny lens.

This can be corrected you know. My mom had her thyroid removed and takes sybthroid, she lost weight easily after that
Oh sure, that's all. Just go get your thyroid removed, no big deal. So you blame my mother for not getting surgery, and I guess that makes her lazy? My aunt did that, and it didn't do anything for her weight.

I blame your mother for years of neglect that ruined her thyroid, she wasn’t born that way

My mother has had this problem since she was young and started having kids. Did you not read the part where I said she eats like a bird?
Take your arrogance somewhere else and quit talking about things that you know nothing about.

I did, you just verified this is some fantasy for you and her to feel better either way every subsequent post.
Look, it’s ok, nobody’s perfect. But lying to yourself and other does nobody any good

Imagine calling yourself a Christian and getting on a social media board and condemning overweight people.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. But I'd rather a fat kind person than a thin a-hole.

Life's too short to go through being a judgmental prick all the time and I'm sure you just are the fricking paragon of virtuousness

God: “Yes, you dedicated your life to serving the poor, never jerked off, and said the rosary twice a day, but sadly you will be going to hell instead of heaven. That gut is just too big.”

Did someone with hypothyroidism choose that so they could get fat and live in sin?

Why does this always get excused? Nobody is born fat they but go to any baptist church service and it's like a before and way before weight watchers commercial.
Living your entire life in judgment of others is a sin. And if that’s the way you choose to live your life in sin then prepare for the consequences. Ask for forgiveness for sinning and try to be a better person who doesn’t think they are better than others.
