How long can your generator run before you need to add oil?

Depends on the generator. Id check level every day and change oil every 3 days or so assuming running pretty much all day

Probably overkill if using full synthetic

I have a generac 22kW (natural gas) that I check the oil every 48 hours and it has never been low. I change the oil after every 4 days running but we havent had to run it like that but 3 times since we installed it in 2005. We have been lucky and if our power goes out we can usually get it back in 24-36 hours.

Edit: There is a substation 1/4 mile from me and there are 2 Alabama Power big wigs who live in my neighborhood.

If it's a portable generator, check the oil each time you add fuel.

If you can't find oil, I have plenty. You should be able to find some though.

Supposedly the green means they are currently working in your area.

No, green is supposed to be restored.

Orange is supposed to be "still assessing."
Blue is supposed to be "crews assigned for repairs."

Their map isn't very accurate. I think they just needed to throw something out to appease the public and it's still wrong. I understand that it takes a long time and the storm was bad. But that's not an excuse that their outage map went out in May after the derecho and was never fixed.

I don't know why it's so hard. They get 5 minute interval meter data and had the API built with arcgis. I've had 2 tech bros whip these up for me in one day when we had storms hit a solar fleet. They know within 5 minutes of a meter going non-comm.

Well I am in the green also and as I mentioned I had electricity for about a second a few hours ago and then nothing.. so I guess Centerpoint is counting anyone who had electricity for a second as “restored”..

Hopefully they do not really think we are permanently restored!

I don't see where Centerpoint is using the word "Restored". Their legend says "Energized" - suggesting their lines are energized.

I'm guessing that means homes should have power based on their data (a good sign). But it does not mean homes actually have power.

All this storm did was shine a light on CenterPoint lacking in the infrastructure upgrades that are needed

Hell our neighborhood has been reporting a broken power line pole for months to them, with this storm it finally snapped completely and took out the transformer pole next to it

The map is showing green for me too but no power. Instead, I am in Port Arthur fighting off the local trannies.

Well there is at least one neighborhood I am aware of in the green that has been energized but none of us have electricity in our homes.. that is not an individual home issue .. that is a regional issue..

Centerpoint is play word games so they can post a map that looks a lot more optimistic.. yeah they are in the area.. i guess.. have not actually seen a truck… I would hope that was a no brainer..

But no way a lot of that green has functioning electricity in the houses and neighborhood..

CP now stating that green means fuse level repairs have been made, but area may still have outages. If it’s this messed up for a Cat 1, I don’t want to think about what would have happened if Beryl would have slammed into us as a Cat 4/5.

No power for my neighborhood in Champions Park North. We are in a blue area now. Blue means restoration has been assigned. We were orange earlier today which means an assessment was being made.

After this it will seem worse. The restoration work is more like “a lick and a promise”. Heavy thunderstorms will cause multiple outages where shortcuts were taken to get power restored quickly. We have been experiencing this since Laura and Delta. Most of the kinks are worked out now, but we have had multiple occasions in the last couple of years when more than 50% of the service area was without power after a severe thunderstorm.

Acting Texas Governor Dan Patrick pledged Tuesday that CenterPoint will be held accountable for how it prepared for Hurricane Beryl.

“Right now Jeremy (Rogalski), if they made mistakes, we don’t know if they did or not, if they made mistakes beforehand, than that will be addressed by the PUC (Public Utility Commission of Texas), that’s their job, and by the state legislature,” Patrick said at a news briefing at the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management.

One of my workers lives in a neighborhood off Beaumont Highway close to Beltway 8. There is a light pole just lying in the middle of the highway. Been that way since Monday.
