Does this gravely matter?

As to the longterm forecast/outlook of Barrel? Not really.

It was really spinning the mesos up over the islands, which is to be expected with a storm like this. It matters if you're under them, Ida and Laura both did damage exacerbated by mesovorts in the eyewall, especially Ida over Houma as it stalled before its turn. Over the open ocean they just make for great satellite porn.

Where it crosses the Yucatán will be key. Closer to Cozumel/Cancun could mean trouble

The upper level pattern looks to be favorable for a hook northward with strengthening. Will Beryl be strong enough coming off the Yucatan to feel the weakness? A track farther south across the Yucatan will weaken the system enough that it probably slides west in the lower level flow. Lots to watch.

Remember the windows getting sucked out of the bank building in Lake Chuck during Laura? That almost certainly was caused by a mesovort in the eyewall. Mark Studduth (Hurricane Track) actually got decent footage of it happening from one of his remote cams. He has a video that slows down and enhances the clip.

The track version

Pray shear weakens it in Caribbean. If it holds strength it looks like it could be trouble for Houston area

Also, the mesovorts are associated with periods of intensification b/c they work to accelerate pressure falls. Beryl is probably a CAT5 at this point.

What does this pink line have against LA? It has been predicting a sharp turn to LA on every run

Did they just program in a Lake Charles landfall into their model to be safe?

I've wondered if they're just as likely, or maybe more likely, to spin up with land interaction? The meso damage in Houma from Ida was some of the worst I've seen, and I used to have a loop saved where it was spinning them up almost constantly as it put on the brakes and began to turn. The first satellite images of the damage in Houma looked more like tornado damage than a hurricane.

Dare I say it seems the HWRF has been the most consisent on Beryl so far

I feel like HWRF has been pretty solid the past few years. It makes sense since it's purpose-built for that sort of thing.
