Yep I was expecting worse.
That water doesn’t look all that bad either.

Damn. I went to Grand Isle, went through Chackbay and Kraemer to go there, not long after Ida and that is bringing back those memories. The utter destruction. It's horrible. I hope the people of Cirracou can recover quickly.

I expected that island to be completely leveled.
The damage caused was still very bad but I didn’t expect to see buildings standing.

They have a lot of concrete buildings, probably for this reason.

Probably also didn’t get massive surge. Almost no building can withstand an angry surge when it starts pounding away.

Looks like some very sturdy metal roofs as well. If the roof holds, you got a good chance of making it through.

When is high tide? the water seems to be up much closer to buildings than it would usually be. Whoever had the controls on the drone did a masterful job of selecting a speed that showed a whole lot.
There are the buildings that have little damage, there are the ones that lost their roofs but not the framing timbers. What we don't see are the buildings that couldn't take the wind because they were ripped apart and are scattered heaven knows where.
From the drone footage we saw people out walking, but not frantic digging. Let's hope that's a good sign.

I will say with the 18Z GFS if it had a stronger storm with where it comes off the Yucatan would probably cause some problems especially for Texas

If I’m reading that right, we’d be seeing (hopefully) a weak system/remnant low if it made it that far north?

It’s going straight to the Yucatán. It’s not hitting the gulf coast

Would have been a 5 if they measured earlier

Overnight models are showing a turn North compared to earlier models. Houston is definitely in play. We need to keep an eye on this tricky one.

Thank you for posting that. Yep, everyone from Louisiana to Texas needs to be watching.

In the days ahead, it will move into an area with even higher ocean heat content south of Hispaniola. He ignores the shear
It will be interesting to see how well such a strong storm with plenty of hot SSTs can fight off the shear.
Does the shear win or the storm?
