What about in DFW? Does anyone know where I can find the best King Cake? Do they also do different flavors, or just traditional?

ordering is your best option, when we don't go to mardi gras that is what we do. I have gotten king cake at whole foods a few times and its not bad, about rouses quality.

I have found with king cake, those specialty bakers generally do a great job but I would be hard pressed to say which is better.

Anyone who says Meches doesn't know what a real king cake is. That being said, Haydels.

I had a Dong Phuong king cake a couple weeks ago. It was really good. I’m not a big king cake guy, but it was probably the best king cake I’ve ever had.

Not what Louisiana folks would think of as traditional. The Louisiana style King Cake is way different. Probably should just call someone who's tastes and opinions are somewhat in line with yours and ask who's they prefer. Taste is too subjective to ask for opinions of the "Best".

Most of the folks in here probably don’t realize the traditional king cake uses a cinnamon roll dough recipe, so you gotta cut them some slack.

Dafuq? Traditional king cakes are nothing like a cinnamon roll. It’s a brioche cake...

Their cream cheese king cake is fantastic. Definitely better than any of the Randazzos or Haydel’s

FWIW: My office gets about 15 different types of king cakes each year from the New Orleans area

Recently just had a huge debate about which King Cake reigns supreme in the South this can include LA, Mississippi, or Texas. What is your pick?

As a native Texan, I just stopped by to say this is ridiculous on it's face.

Topping and fillings are the generall differences, though Rickey Meche developed his, with the help of a food scientist I think, to accommodate his lack of an oven to produce it in. Thus the doughnut based king cake. Keller’s actually use a 120 year old family danish recipe, according to their website, they’re probably my favorite, though I do like Meche’s a lot.

What about Poupart’s Traditional king cake?

It’s shaped like a pie (not a ring), and has a layer of almond butter.

My favorite in Lafayette. That being said, I’m not big on sweets.

Poupart’s makes ones like this.

They are Parisian French immigrants.

Who In the hell is gonna have a better king cake outside the state of Louisiana??

Are we going to act like other states are incapable of putting icing and cinnamon on dough?
