1976 Lada. You can probably get one for less than 2,000 roubles, and it gets an astounding 36 milya per vedro of kerosene.

Regardless what you buy, get a full Carfax report. Not only do they show accidents or flood damage, they show ALL service records. When buying a used car, you want to know how often it was serviced by the previous owner.

I bought a salvaged ford taurus for $300. Ran strong a long time before catching on fire.

Calling someone poor for making a smart financial decision probably means you're poor.

I paid $3500 in 2014 for an 02 Mitsubishi Lancer with 125k miles. Still rolling strong with over 200k.

I have no problem admitting my 97 4runner is at 350k miles and so going strong.

I even get the "OT treatment" from my own wife. "High school kids have better cars than you do!"

We've got a 2013 Accord and we love it. Great vehicle but horrid paint job. I seriously think the guy on the Honda assembly line that painted it may be blind.

He is.

Honda or Toyota, I would not take a chance on anything else at that price level. When my kids started driving we bought cheap Hondas, we had a $4500.00 Civic with 120K miles on it, kid drove it through high school and college putting another 100k on it replacing only brakes. Would have had similar results with the other cars, but the kids totaled them, which is another reason to buy cheap cars.
