Really would like the timing to be later on that system, assuming it materializes as such. Will be driving through that part of Texas about that time.

Just need it like one day later.

Yeah hitting the 24th would be fine with me, flying through DC to philly late the 23rd and all the recent tracks have the storm right on the edge of DC/philly midnight 23/24th. A day later would mean at least getting home without weather worries.

All of that looks like freezing rain. Surface temps look to generally be 30 or above with much warmer air aloft when most of the rain falls. That would limit ice. There is a period of pretty cold surface temps but not a whole a whole lot falls. Models struggle with shallow cold air so there are many possible variations.

Same here hoping to head to NM late Christmas or early the 26th. Hoping for good snow but clear roads on the way. Not looking good for travel weather though.

Latest run of the GFS pretty much killed off the moisture during that time frame.

For BR the 6z GFS shows a high in the mid-30's on Christmas Day, with rain all day changing to freezing rain and sleet overnight, lasting most of the next day. And a high of 28 the day after Christmas.

GFS seems to be struggling with how far east the cold air will make it. A few runs ago had us in the 60's on Christmas Day with the cold staying in Texas/West LA.
