In my experience that’s the result of trucks trying to pass each other at 0.5 miles an hour and people driving 55 in the right lane causing trucks to have to get in the left lane where they clog it up for miles.
Thursday i was down to 55 mph several times and that was because traffic was so heavy, this is something else that causes a lot of accidents. When traffic is heavy or it is raining I will get off at Pinnicle Park and take Brewster rd to 1085 or get off at Goodbee and take 1085 but that is a issue with traffic also.

really don’t know what it is about I-12 but it’s the absolute worst stretch of interstate I’ve driven on in the country
Redneck Autobahn

Or, maybe someone with the State Troopers could start enforcing speed limits
Or maybe they can enforce the new law making it illegal to drive in the left lane when not passing. “Slow” drivers hanging out in the left lane is just as much a problem

In order to keep costs down many trucking companies have hired Dei level drivers. As with other industries this has consequences.
Add in the fact people aren’t taught how to drive any longer, and they’re too busy watching Instagram Reels to pay attention to the road; it’s a recipe for disaster.

One of many contributing factors

Posted on 7/27/25 at 6:07 pm to PaintCompany
We should build a loop from I10 to I10 to solve this I12 problem.

LADOTD is a bloated, useless organization that only serves to be a massive embarrassment to the state. They can’t run a fricking street sweeper and you expect them to fix something?

I drive from Ponchatoula to Slidell 4 days a week and I can tell you what the issue is. People driving like maniacs weaving in and out of traffic.
Posted on 7/27/25 at 6:16 pm to PaintCompany
I travel I 12 to between DS and Slidell almost daily. Between DS and Hammond is unreal. It’s not the big rigs that are idiots

What? It's a straight road. What does government have to get involved.
Just drive straight.
Just drive straight.

I commute the causeway and the idiot swerving to get a 1/4 mile ahead and then end up at the light with is the worst.

bullshite. You must drive an 18 wheeler.
I drove west bound today, and a dickhead 18 wheeler overturned prolly beating off or fricking with his CB radio.
East bound before Holden exit shutdown for 20 miles while they put him up right. 95% of interstate accidents involve dickhead 18 wheelers.

This...
I drive Hammond to BTR twice a week and its the trucks that are the issues...Seeing who can go the fricking slowest, etc...Dudes weaving in and out trying to pass in the left lane, etc..
I like to blame dumb cars for a lot of the minor shite, but trucks are the biggest issue on this stretch of road

Wrong! The assholes cutting off EVERYONE is out of control
Posted on 7/27/25 at 6:49 pm to PaintCompany
Those damn injury lawyers!
Premiums are still high, haven’t come down at all and big rigs keep driving unsafely.

Last 2 Saturdays I drove on I-12 I saw more of them than usual. A lot. I can’t imagine what a weekday would look like.
It was a 25 minute delay. I hate that crap. I thought I had a chance on a Sunday afternoon

Insane. I wonder what’s happened for so many to be there on the weekends now. Used to not be too bad.
Posted on 7/27/25 at 10:08 pm to Ponchy Tiger
While I agree with this, if people would just get the F out of the left lane, cruising and not paying attention to the line of cars behind them, then there would be less wrecks and less crazies zooming in and out.
It’s a passing lane, we all know it, nobody uses it correctly, therefore it causes stupidity and traffic.

I-12 should be three continuous lanes from BR to the MS state line. Thus would alleviate most of the congestion and keep all trucks and trailers in the middle and right lanes.
LADOTD is a fricking embarrassment and an incompetent state agency. Decades of abysmal leadership.

18 wheeler driver here. The quality of person behind the wheel has dropped so dramatically in the last 20 years. The shite I see on my twice weekly trips from Port Allen to Dallas is unreal. Cell phones, tablets, fricking laptop computers propped on the dash with tv/movies/porn playing is nuts.
Some of these companies nowadays hire anyone with a CDL and a pulse. Hell you no longer need to be able to drive a stick these days to get a CDL. Trucking is a sad state in today's world. I'm lucky to work for a company that pays 6 figures and is big time serious on safety. But still I half expect to get taken out by one of these dickheads one day.
