Clay Bar?

I got something on my truck a few months ago and I have been unable to get it off. I have tried bug/tar and several more products, but all I am doing is scratching my paint job. I have been able to pick some of it off with my finger nail. I picked it up one day on the interstate and it looks like dirt, but it is not.
Would a clay bar help?

What is the “something”? That will determine the best answer.

Seems like you just need to trade the vehicle in for a new one

Squirt some WD40 on it and work it a bit.

3M adhesive remover. Great stuff. I used it to remove my protective film coating. It is paint safe. You can find it at auto zone.

Most of the bug and tar removers sold over the counter are garbage. Use some kerosene on a rag, dab it on andlet it soak

Have you tried heating it with a blow dryer?

Goop Off and hand sanitizer will work wonders. Finger nail is the single best tool to not scratch paint.

Clay bars are for contamination. They don’t do great on blobs. Also consider one of the eraser drill things.

It is in streaks down the side.

You could give Goo Gone a try

Are you sure it's not paint?

Magic eraser.
That will work on a lot of things but will just smear tar and basically does the same thing a clay bar does.

One of the dumber suggestions in this thread. Do you know how abrasive a magic eraser is? OP's clearcoat would be shot after that.

You got a down vote but people don't realize that coke has the same ph as white vinegar and is an acid.

It's no more abrasive than a clay bar. It has its uses in detailing. I wouldn't just scrub the whole car but for spot treatment they work well.
