Then you should get paid on that. Not 100% of prior years catch.
you don't
You get paid on the avg of the last 3 years catch minus what you caught this year and then you get 75% of that unless you are a minority. The ladies at the FSA and most county committees that I talk to aren't letting people just peddle out bs numbers
The ones with the bigger checks per acre will be getting audited by national FSA also

Yep that’s facts but he’ll be here shortly to say something different, just because he’s got some “buddies “ he’s got knowledge on the crawfish industry….

Don’t you know he “knows every farmer around Welsh”

It is called "farming the government" for reasons.

Even at 75% it's still an honor system with no way to verify your claimed 3 year average.
You honestly believe anyone is going to report last year's catch after all the crying to get this program in place?

To do what? The programs states you don't have to third party varify.

all of them. farmers aren't uninformed retards that have no comms with the outside world. they are in constant communication with one another as well as the federal and state ag field offices which are located in each parish. they know exactly what financial programs are available to them
maybe the guy fishing 10 acres behind his mama's house on his 2 weeks in from a roustabout job isn't taking advantage, but the true commercial ops are aware of any assistance programs offered by the govt

I'm not angry. My whole family farms and thinks this way overkill and rife with fraud.

So if your family thinks it’s “fraud” they surely didn’t apply for try ELAP right?

So are they going to deposit the check?

I didn't say it is fraud. I said it's ripe for fraud.
I never said there were no loses, so they would be stupid not to apply. Did you?
Why are you so defensive? The whole point of the thread is to point out the program relies on unverifiable reporting.

You have to have it signed by buyers
Fsa can call buyers. Fsa can also ask for bank statements to see if money and names on checks match up
Fsa also already had 21 records and I’ve heard of people already getting busted trying to give different records for 2021
If National fsa gets involved they can ask for taxes, etc
You really don’t have a clue what you are talking about as usual when it comes to ag and probably should shut the frick up

So you're telling us that there are dishonest people in the crawfish industry? Do you see why noone believes them when they cry wolf?

My dad cashed in because my mom is meticulous and keeps accurate accounting records. My brother didn’t get a penny because he tries to hide most of his profits from his greedy ex wife and has very little records. To each his own.

There is a couple thousand crawfish farmers in the state. Stop listening to a couple buyers or a few farmers who like to talk to the media
Also the crawfish are the best/cheapest after Easter - that’s peak population/catch so buy your crawfish after then
Posted on 10/3/24 at 9:59 am to loogaroo
I’m defensive because you are spewing BS about how the farmers are basically getting free money. Once again all records are verified. Your family/buddies are either not telling you all the info, or you have no idea what you’re talking about. Also sounds like your family/buddies are bitching with a belly full. They taking the money but are claiming it’s fraud.

I know the game. I was here in 2010 when the commercial fisherman were going to BP with tax returns showing they made 50K, BP paid them 50K, and they were pissed because they said they really made 200K it just wasn't on paper.
Story as old as time in commercial fishing. I know plenty of them

crawfish producers an opportunity to apply for ELAP assistance.
So since they are getting all this money we gonna see $2.50 a lb in March ?

There’s dishonesty in every industry. What industry is 100% honest?

I'll put it to you like this: If just about every year is a bad year, why do people continue to do it? I ask crabbers here this all the time and they get pissed. If you haven't really made any money in 30 years, why are you continuing to bust your arse doing it?
I have not gotten a good answer yet.
