I’ve been very satisfied with service at Toyota dealerships in Alexandria, first it was AllStar and now Walker. They’ve never tried to gouge me.Ex.-I took my wife’s Prius in for oil change, tire rotation and they told me it needed new brakes.85,000 miles so I wasn’t surprised and made an appt. When I took it back, little while they came and got me and told me the brakes didn’t need replacement after all.Something about the tech that recommended new brakes had little experience with brakes, the brake expert that was going to replace them said they didn’t need changing.I was prepared to pay for a brake job.Same car at 105,000 miles,we gave it to grandson so I took it in and asked them to check it over, especially the brakes They didn’t find anything wrong and said brakes had plenty of life left.
We’ve had a bunch of Toyota’s over the years-Camry,Venza,Corolla,2 Priuses,Tundra,Tacoma and Highlander and have gone to dealership for all our service and have always been pleased.About the only thing I do myself is change batteries and windshield wiper blades.Iused to rotate tires myself but I’ve reached a point where I’d rather pay them $20.

I've had a good experience overall with dealership service but I am a total pain in the arse customer with questions and challenging them. However, last time I got under the hood, I noticed a label that looked out of place down in a dark area. There was a quart of oil, the container, resting on maybe the only spot it possibly could have stayed without moving or causing a problem. It was there for weeks, possibly longer depending on when it got there. Free extra oil for me.

Had one cut the wiring to an oxygen sensor to make the check engine light go away on my 3 day old new Mazda. Caught it the same day. Went back the next day. Service manager would not admit what his tech had done , but he did admit that they didn’t have the part in stock. Then he asked me if I had trouble with vandalism in my neighborhood. Idiots

My wife & I have and will always service at dealership. I eard tol many stories of walmart/other small shops putting wrong oil filter on, not putting things back, thus frying motor/transmission. Now, I worked at dealerships for years so know the game, but I also know the ppl to go to if they mess up our vehicle, plus I have warranty on both so make sure they keep up everything to specs/recalls. But if U did not know these things, I would agree they can be pushy/upsell everything

Walker is a quality operation. And with Toyota you have a real good combination there. Mist people are not that lucky.

BTW I am a Ford owner and don't live near Alex.

I've been taking mine in at Price Leblanc Nissan for a few years. Never had any trouble as far as I know. Usually I just turn down their "recommended" services and they don't push too hard. Apparently Altima cabin air filters are a pain in the arse to change so I let them do that when it needs to be changed.

Why don't you change it yourself? Good grief.

Its easier to pay somebody $40 to deal with it

But I use a local mechanic I trust

I bring the oil and filter I like, he charges me a half hour of labor

Apparently Altima cabin air filters

Yeah they use to run this hustle with women about cabin air filters and charging like $60-$75.

Finally they realized they could catch more flies with honey and just charge like $15 labor above part and they're getting a lot more takers.

But for me, a cabin air filter is one of those things that if I can't change it at home with a cold beer and a Youtube clip, then I should just turn in my baw card.

Just remember this - their oil change technicians probably worked at mcdonald's the week before.

This is at any car repair place

I don’t trust any of them - but while it’s under warranty it’s going to the dealer

My wife’s old SUV came from a dealer that gave free oil changes for life. They were pretty big on trying to sell overpriced air filters and windshield wipers.

One day I was sitting in there waiting on her suv to be done and they had a guy walking around the waiting room showing the same dirty air filter over and over and selling the customer a new one. If they bought the filter he’d hit them up for the cabin filter. He’d tell them they were running a special and it was $100 to do both. They probably had about an 80% success rate.

Sure, I could do it. But based on the videos for my make and model, you basically have to remove the entire glove box to easily access the cabin air filter, or contort your body upside down on the floor to access it. Terrible (intentional) design. I'll gladly pay the extra $10 to have them do that while doing my oil change and inspection sticker every year or so.

You don’t even drop your Porsche off. They come pick it up and leave a loaner. I agree, it’s next level. Lexus is excellent too.

As with anything, it varies by the dealership.

I think it all depends. Some good. Some bad. My oil change is same price at local shop that I used to trust. Independent. Left them after they charged me $75 to install new skid plate bolts that were the same they had to reinstall when they changed the oil. I called them on it and “oh, that’s a mistake”. Sorry.

Must have been the same guy that showed me a dirty air filter that supposedly came out of my car and highly recommended that it be changed or serious engine damage would occur.
Told him to go back and bring me the actual NAPA filter that came out of my car and we would discuss it further. The filter he had in his hand couldn't fit the air plenum if you hit it with a hammer.
Never went back. He probably still uses it on unsuspecting customers.

It is not just the dealerships. All the chain tire and service centers are potential trap stores. There was a video news segment on 60 min or 20/20 several yrs ago that showed that the mechanics and service managers were being paid heavily on commission and hence gouging customers with massive unneeded repairs and inflated charges.
