it’s really not that bad you just can’t go cheap on your winter gear

I've been sweating just from walking around a rail yard pulling pins and throwing switches at -15. (Real temp. Not wind chill)

Carhart coat/bibs and a couple layers is all it takes.

TBG it's true about it being a dry cold. I was out in far west Texas on a day when it was about 15 and I was fine with just a fleece top. Caveat, there was no wind and the sun was shining.
I was shedding layers once it got up to 5° in North Dakota as long as it was sunny. Granted, I was beveling pipe and moving around a good bit.

That would break the record of 1064.

Sunshine, no wind, and dry makes those 10 degree highs not that bad.

Im with you, shedding layers if Im doing anything active.

Of course, this coming cold snap wont be wind free.

Any insight as to what the most consistently cold spot is in CO?

It seems Alamosa gets pretty damn cold. I also heard Fraser cools off pretty good.

I don’t know why, but it seems the valleys can get colder than a town like Leadville

NWS Huntsville has issued a Wind Chill Watch for Friday, the first they've ever issued. NWS forecast is now 16°/7°. I'm taking the under on the high. 15-20mph winds after midnight, which would make for somewhere around -13° wind chill.

Not for long but I'm gonna have to go out and check on some things to make sure heaters are working, etc. on Friday. I had decided to wear a beanie but now I'm considering a full face toboggan

Because when its still and clear at night, air separates by density. Cold air, is denser than the warm as you know, and sinks to the bottom of the vallies.

Im on a bit of a ridge, and itll be cold but not ridiculous at the house. Drive around and down to the low part of the valley here, itll be 10+ degrees colder.

Thats why places like Frasier and Alamosa get so stupid cold. Look up Peters Sink in NE Utah, to see what the extreme of this process can yield.

Likely due to timing. The front won't fully push through there until around 4-6am Friday. So, the temp from Thursday night wouldn't really reflect the temp post-front.
