SIAP - Multiple municipalities and local utility companies in the area covered by the Tennessee Valley Authority are reporting that the TVA will be initiating 15-30 minute rolling blackouts that will impact its entire coverage reason. There has been no official word from the TVA confirming this, though.

Here is one such statement from Muscle Shoals Police:
quote:

Muscle Shoals Police Department

EMERGENCY SITUATION

TVA has initiated Step 50 of the Emergency Load Curtailment Plan and local power companies are having to curtail firm load.

Muscle Shoals Electric Board is having to initiate rolling blackouts in 30 min intervals on a circuit by circuit basis. All customer will be affected.
This is an emergency situation and interruptions are necessary to maintain the stability of the power grid.
Please refrain from calling the power department phone lines as they are rolling over to the police department phones and will tie up the emergency phone lines. Thank you for your patience.

Now if that “auxiliary heat” runs on electricity, that’s a different story. Heat pumps consume as much power as running the air conditioner and resistive heating is very electrically energy intensive. So that may have had an effect.

I'm pretty sure it does run off of electrical

And it just did the same thing again and flipping the breaker got it running again. Called some

Yeah, TVA has asked Athens Utilities to make the request for people to turn off all non-essential electric devices. That's East of Muscle Shoals. This could he a pain in the arse stretch.

Couple inches. Roads aren’t bad. They had them treated three days prior.

Isnt that area powered by the nuclear plant up in Scottsboro?

I guess Im ignorant as to their power capacity but I'm surprised they are having to enact blackouts when the grid there isn't hampered by the issues TX experienced a couple years back.

13 here in Central MS with a -3 wind chill. About to go hit up my morning run. Coldest wind chill I've ever ran in was 3. We'll see how it goes.

I ran when the temp was 15 and wind chill was 0. Actually wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it.

Powered mostly by Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Limestone county. I don't know how much of an issue they've had. There's no mention yet of rolling blackouts. Just TVA asking to reduce load.

They've also been working on revamping the plant to extend their operating years/certification. They may have something down for maintenance.

19 here at shortly before noon. Forecast was for a high of 28. Looks like it will be off by quite a bit. Pipes at home were ok but we had a frozen pipe at the office. Fortunately was able to thaw it out.

The locals and even the NWS are sticking to their high temp forecast of ~16°. I just don't see it.

Currently in the area:

can you hear your thermostat signal the system on? Mine makes a distinct click.

Hell it might tell you depending on what thermostat you have.

My BIL said it's possible when the temp drops that quickly to get a negative draft in the blower motor that keeps it from coming on even if the thermostat tells it to. ...im sure I'm not explaining it right though

Basically the same thing that happened to me, except mine is gas so I could tell the burner was on
