Yes, depression and tinnitus are closely linked, with depression frequently exacerbating the severity and emotional impact of tinnitus. While not a direct physical cause of ear damage, depression increases stress and affects brain function, making the ringing or buzzing sound more noticeable, persistent, and distressing.

The inverse is also true, tinnitus can cause and exacerbate depression. Drives patients crazy.

I've had tinnitus all of my life. It was so bad as a kid that it would wake me, and I'd think a swarm of locusts was in my room.

My ears are ringing as I read this. I've told my wife recently (for the past 10 years) I've just felt "down"....

My original post was just asking Google.
Here is a link to an NIH study.

Here's a Center for Anxiety study too.

The Connection between Tinnitus and Depression
Studies display that about one-third of people with tinnitus also suffer from depression which is much higher than in people without it. This strong link is frequently known as tinnitus linked to depression.
This happens due to both conditions may disturb the same parts of the brain that switch emotions and serotonin levels. When a person feels worried or upset, at that time, their tinnitus can get worse. This produces a cycle when the ringing causes more emotional discomfort and that pain makes the sound feel louder.

based off that it means depression can WORSEN tinnitus, not cause (unless it directly says in the article). This is true and tinnitus more often leads to depression for obvious reasons

Don’t know about depression but I know an Ampeg stack, Marshall stack, and a big arse drum kit can for sure cause it.

My ears are high-pitched ringing as I type.
Why do I notice? Because your subject line. Before I read it, did not realize it.
Great sleep and background noise cancelled it, offset by 3rd cup of coffee of course!
Farthest from depressed as possible here!
