Picked up meditations a few years ago after chatting with a wise old dude on an airplane.
Kind of hard to argue with the thought process of a man who was responsible for one the largest empires to date. Helps keep a type A like me a bit more balanced - I’m slowly not sweating the small stuff as much.
Lots of similarities between this and Christianity.

With me, Spirituality and philosophy are intertwined. One as more of a faith and one more as a discipline. The similarities in Christianity, Stoicism and Buddhism are many. For instance on how all three approach the concept of Acceptance. I borrow lessons from all three about different things. Stoicism , because it appealed to me on a mind/personal discipline level really got me through some tough times in a completely different way than Christianity. One the mind and the other the heart. You go to each for different nourishment. 10 step stuff, which I’m not very familiar with, also seems to split the difference appealing to the mind ( Stoicism ) and heart ( Christianity).
I’ve sent copies of Marcus Aurelius Meditations to several friends. If you want to face a rough patch gracefully, just read that along with your Bible.

All of you Tards that dwell on this BS live inside of your head instead of living in the real world around you. Follow the 10 commandments, love others and don't be an arse. It is that easy to live life.

I got through some extremely difficult times with the Bible alone.
I thank God for His Word, and the fellowship of the men who helped me get through it.
When it first started in 2016, my pastor told me this experience was going to bring me closer to God than ever before.
He was right, and what followed for the next 7 and a half years made me stronger.
While I don't wish it anyone, the fact is that in this life we will face trials.
Lots of folks try lots of things, but keeping your relationship with God at the center is really the only way.

Couldn’t agree with this statement more. For those of you who haven’t read MA’s meditations, grab a copy on Amazon for $15 and thumb through it. It will never replace the Bible or our faith, but it’ll certainly help you better understand humans.

I hear you. But I also feel a bit bad for people who don’t compliment the Bible with the wisdom of those He created. I enjoy what my Dad says and the beautiful advice of my girlfriend and 1000 other people. So , not sure why ANYONE would say “ Bible only” and not want to know what Seneca or Buddha or Jung or any other man with tremendous insight has to say about difficult times. .Particularly if you can integrate it with the Bible. You can learn about dealing with suffering through reading about Job AND reading about what Seneca and Buddha ( men) thought too. That’s what HE wants, for us to love and help one another. He doesn’t require us to withdraw from one another. Quite the opposite in fact.

Paying attention to what is real rather than what is in your head is the exact purpose of mindfulness.

I don't see why people try to make it seem like it's either or with the Bible and stoicism. I read passages by both every day. Often I will read a passage in the Bible, and then see how there is also a stoicism lesson in it, as well.

I'm a Capricorn so I'm naturally stoic.

Been digging into the Stoics and it seems to be great info for living.
Absolutely yes. Read just about everything from Robert Greene and Ryan Holiday.
Holiday is a liberal when it comes to politics (so hold your nose), but his writing is very good.
Highly recommend both authors. And of course Marcus Aurelius.

Yes, I agree.
Your post was excellent, I was just sharing my experience and wasn't saying that's the only way; He certainly gave us other tools and wisdom.

Uhm so if you want a stoic life don't become a cattle rancher.
