Always have mine out in a butter dish. When we travel, it goes into frig.

I like hot butter on my breakfast toast.

I used to frick with my law clerks at lunch by embroiling them in lunchtime debate regarding the definition of a sandwich.

To the best of my recollection, my go to was “solid or semi-solid filling between leavened bread in which some portion of the filling is viewable in the final preparation”.

Fridge. If I need to spread butter on my toast I just put the back of my spoon on the egg I’m frying for a few seconds to let it warm up and use that to spread it. Works like a champ This way, I don’t leave my butter out at room temperature like some kind of psycho
