Only in America could these Job Duties get you 50 bucks an Hour. Is it the Union that tells these people they are irreplaceable ? Seems to me any person could do this job for alot less

So y’all know how this works?
The more they pay the workers…the more the companies charge for services…the more all of the goods will cost.
This is how and why prices for everyday items go up.
And people think that the companies just won’t make as much money…WRONG.
So companies refuse to accept making less profit and workers refuse to accept smaller wage increases. I don't blame either side really, I just don't understand why the typical reaction around here is to blame the union/empolyees and act like they're the bad guys

Unions are no longer organized labor. They are now organized crime. All Unions should be obolished.
And I think “obolishing” should be more painful than just abolishing.

Retards were offered a substantial raise and chose to hold their breath until they turn blue.
Management may have been bigger retards by thinking union personnel would be better than non union.

62% over 6 years is wild but with inflation so high, it’s not overly drastic as a COL adjustment. Wish I could get 10% every year.

Indeed. Poors jealous of the C suites.

Listen to the piece of shite mob boss running the ILA and you should be able to figure it out.
Then looks at what these guys already make for a low skill job.

Do you know how absolutely MINISCULE these dockworkers' pay is in the budgets of these huge multinational shipping companies?!
You tell us. What percentage of the budget is for union wages? Be specific.

Its just double inflation.
No big deal. I'm sure this will not trickle down to other lowly skilled occupations.

I'm not going to do that much research for a post on a message board.
That said, you look at the big players in the global shipping game and you're seeing collective revenues WELL over $100B.
There are 45,000 ILA members with an average pay of $50/hr. Take the agreed upon 60% pay increase over the next 6 years and annualize it to $5/hr for 45,000 workers. That's $10,400 per employee per year. $468M for the entire ILA membership or between .25-.5% of total annual revenues. Peanuts.

Let's face it, the longshoremen are in a position of power and can hold the country ransom! And they did!
Only because of government. Government in union states forces companies to contract with the unions. If not for those anti-competetive laws ports would be automated by now.
Posted on 10/4/24 at 2:09 pm to FLObserver
For now, anyways
the companies have just tripled their efforts to implement automation now that the dock worker assholes have demanded more money

Because your claim is complete conjecture. I asked the percentage of their budget and you bring up revenue.

The frick do you think budgets are based on if not revenue?
Nah, you're pissed I actually took the time to layout the costs and proved they're miniscule.
It pays to care about nuance and facts instead of just joining the crowd and jabbering on about "durrrr price increases!!!" "durrr unions" "durrr capitalism".

Y'all wanna get rid of unions because you aren't the ones who just got a 60% pay increase guaranteed over the course of the next 6 year
Hey genius, you do know that the American people are the ones paying for the 60% increase, right? Companies don't absorb rate hikes, we do.
frick unions.
