I think that exact scenario is everyone’s worst nightmare come true. However, the odds of that same exact situation becoming a reality are exponentially higher living in BR.

In the 80’s it wasn’t such a major problem like what we see today, it’s disconcerting to say to least.

The post-Katrina flight of 504's to 225 was a death knell. It changed the political balance and and now you have BR breaking up. I live in St. George, if you put a house in reasonable condition on the market, it won't last a week.

People vote with their feet and moving vans, SWB is just finishing off where Judge John Parker started.

My mom had a friend of theirs get murdered a few years ago in BR. It was around this same time and he was an insurance salesman or something like that and had pulled over into a park during the day and got killed. He was in a fairly shady area and they caught the guy IIRC.

Did we ever get the 2020 census data? I wonder how accurate it is due to Covid but I'm sure the population of BR proper has declined some more.

Louisiana’s population grew by a mere 2.75% between 2010 and 2020, only a little more than a third as quickly as the U.S. as a whole, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data released Monday.

The relatively anemic growth rate – the 10th slowest in the country – was well below the 7.4% growth of the overall U.S. population. Experts said that the data, the first batch to be released by the Census based on its 2020 count, offered a sobering picture of how Louisiana's economy has struggled to create the jobs that are the primary driver of U.S. migration.

Judge Parker's busing is what started BRs decline but it took like 10 years to feel the full impact. Picking up and moving isn't an easy process for everyone. Next, we lost a number of fairly major employers over the past decade or so.

I think the 2016 flood caused a lot of people to relocate as well.

rooftop bars,

Has anyone seen that rooftop area on top on the building that houses Boudreaux and Thibadeaux? (Sp?). I used to see it from the backside when working downtown and I could never tell exactly what it was. Does anyone have a clue what I’m talking about?

Kip had things going pretty well, especially for BR

As soon as he left office it has been a swift decline

Kip was trying to improve the city and in some ways he did. He wasn't perfect but he didn't play the racial politics and tried to make it a better place to live for everyone.

Broome won't do anything to try to curb crime.

I remember that happening as well. The homicide occurred on Great Smokey Ave. The shooter looked like your local BR area crackhead.

Baton Rouge comparative to some other places around the country doesn't fare well.

But it's not nearly as bad as people say it is. Like anywhere, you have parts of town you can enjoy and parts you should avoid.

I lived there for ten years and enjoyed them all. Currently live in Houston and enjoy it also.

People in this board think everywhere is a "shite hole".

The housing market in Baton Rouge proper is red hot. It’s adorable that people in StG think they are special in this regard

Broome is just a mouthpiece for the city council members who loathed Kip for focusing on BR as a whole

That’s what makes things more aggravating is that if you stayed away from north of Florida Blvd, and some certain pockets here and there (if you live in BR you know those certain little ghetto areas) you were for the most part safe. Now like you say the crime and bs is just everywhere.. you can’t drive down any major street (seigan, bluebonnet, essen, etc.) without someone coming up to your car window begging for money.. I won’t even let my wife go to the store and stuff by her self at night for no other reason than me being worried someone going to try and carjack here or rob her or worse… and we live im a very nice area of BR the crime and sht is just gotten out of control, and it’s just getting worse everyday, the traffic is getting out of control and getting worse everyday, the road construction in the middle of the day is getting out of control which is causing the already sht show traffic to get even more outta control… and when driving having laquisha, and tenisha, and Tyrone all talking on there cell phones and no paying attention to lights and driving, is getting aggravating…
