In 1976 my Father was her drummer. He left a steady job with Donna Fargo to tour and do the "Dolly" television show. I remember they went to Hawaii that year.....still have the shirt Dad bought while he was over there. Everything was pretty laid back, in fact I got to meet her as a kid in the Howard Johnson's parking lot in Monroe just prior to the show she did there that year. Other than being pretty short with me, which was unlike the other artists he worked for other the years, she seemed nice.

Fast forward to early 77 and rumors were swirling about Dolly being in a movie. There were also rumors about her making a change in direction in the style of music she would be performing moving forward. Everyone in the band was assured that nothing would change, but when she began spending more time in LA, the word finally came down that with the exception of one member, the entire band was being fired under the guise that they couldn't play material like Nine to Five.

My Dad grew up here in Louisiana playing Soul and R&B, a huge Boogie Kings fan. He loved James Brown, Tower of Power and most of the 70's R&B acts. In actuality, he had played very little country music in his life when he first arrived in Nashville in the early 70's. Needless to say he was upset that he wasn't given the opportunity to at least audition. When the soundtrack came out it was full of LA players like Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel.

Thankfully he was able to find more work and over the years got over it. When he passed in 2023, I received an incredibly nice hand written note from Dolly. She really is a super talent and a good person.

I heard this and it makes me sad. I'm not ready to lose Dolly. She's the closest thing we have to a saint in this realm. We should all strive to be as good as a human being as she is.

Ultimately, I think she misses her husband.

That’s sad. She’s good people. Very good. I’ll be praying for her. Since she didn’t say what she’s fighting and said she wasn’t ready to die, I figured it’s cancer of some sort.

Losing a spouse will make you want to wrap it up...

She's a generous, talented woman.

God's grace upon her.

Have a friend trying to deal with this. I had never heard of it until he was diagnosed, but I can assure you, it is terrible.

Loser.

Only someone w/no lot in life and who probably lives in their mom's basement would go around on an anonymous MB stalking a particular member's post just to downvote it.
