Maybe my memory is rose-tinted, but it seems that area was the “nice part” of Florida Blvd. when I was in high school in the 80s.
It's not just you; it was.

But the area closer to downtown needs something else to fix it. IDK what.
A bulldozer.

You want to see depressing, just take a ride through the N Donmoor/Mall City area off of Florida. It’s hard to imagine people actually live in that ghetto area.

I mentioned in another thread that panhandling along Florida has started to become a thing. I remember first seeing it happen with more regularity at Florida/N.Foster about 3 years ago but it was on and off on both sides of Florida.
Last year it became a daily occurrence on the northern side of Florida.
Yesterday there were two working the Acadian/Florida intersection. One working the northern side, the other working the southern side. I had seen one working the southern side of the intersection from time to time but this was the first time I had seen one on both sides of Florida.

You should travel more, there are worse-looking stretches throughout America.
But i do feel you, there's a lot of land and opportunity wasted on flordia blvd because no one wants to pay for those old shite buildings.
But this welfare state ain't changing it until the federal gov foots the bill.

Any conversation about Florida Blvd. in the mid-70's to the mid-80's, and some serious nostalgia starts to set in with me.

When I worked downtown I would sometimes just drive around the bus station area to take in the sights. It's like The Walking Dead.
I was getting gas at Mid-City Mart one day and there are four guys out front and two of them slowly start nodding. They ended up going from standing to the fat white guy laying on top of the skinny black guy completely out. The other two were taking videos on their phones and cracking up. It literally took them 2 minutes to go from upright to crumpled.
Speaking of The Walking Dead, Sherwood, especially at I-12, is terrible. shite, Baton Rouge is depressing in general.

Gentrification is the answer. Its not like there are even a lot of residential areas with homeowners within 2-3 blocks of most of Florida, so displacement won't be a big issue.
BR has a lot of issues, but that area should be prime for redevelopment, especially for people working downtown/LSU who don't want a 1 hour commute.

Keep voting Democrat. We will soon be the third world country they want us to be.

The problem is much larger than Florida Blvd. . Much of the problem stems from abandoned/neglected property in the parish. Empty buildings that no one wants and the owner wants $100 million for.
Perhaps the present leadership could develop a method to improve on these eyesores. Real estate prices are a fantasy land . If owners can't /refuse to sell then they should keep their property to at least a minimum standard of a functioning roof, lawn kept neat and tidy, nice paint job without graffiti , no homeless living there and so on.
If the owner has walked away then the parish should demo it and try to sell it at a fair market price.

It’s because of white trump supporters.

Traffic on the interstate and a client meeting had me take Florida to downtown. It’s like the closer I got to Downtown the more depressing it became. People sleeping on the street, trash, dilapidated buildings, graffiti. Just people walking around aimlessly, most in the street.
Then you cross under the interstate and downtown looks like Disney World by comparison.
Poor Boy Lloyds was good though.
Yeah I mean why no big corporation seems to want to invest there is one of life's great mysteries!

Forget it, Jake. It’s Florida Boulevard.

Sadly I live near the area. Don't even bother with Sherwood anymore. Old Hammond or Airline from Goodwood for me.

It's always a curious thing that the more "progressive" a mayor is, the more the homeless population grows.
Ever thought about that, Democrats?

We aren't far away either. Sherwood north of I-12 is like a 3rd world country now.
