Different states have different regulations...We cannot commercially fly them in La (yet)..

You'll need to check your local laws. Each differ.Drone usage for private sector usage is strictly prohibited by the FAA. There are only 2-3 companies that have been ok'd in the US to operate them for a profit.

so the kid who flew the drone on LSU campus didn't violate any laws?

don't know if that video was real, but if that isn't illegal it should be

I did not say that. Flying over neighborhood and flying over crowds is totally different. I am not completely sure about the lwas regarding that though.

We get into a grey area with commercial airspace, flight paths, etc. I'm guessing the issue with the LSU kid would be filming without permission, which is against the law here..

a lot more to it than that

I thought there was no expectation of privacy in public places and thus no permission needed?

My coworker just said that if he saw a drone flying over his backyard, well he would shoot it down

I'm just throwing things out there..I can't imagine why it would be illegal other than LSU will not make money off of it, so it is deemed wrong

Imagine working with a bunch of rednecks that say the same thing...And then you fly one around the office...

Big article in the WSJ a couple of weeks ago about the FAA attempting to require actual pilot's license to fly one. Creating a barrier to entry.

How much does a typical drone cost? are they easy or difficult to fly?
Define drone.
Are talking self-navigating and return-to-home? $400 and up.
Are you talking quad-copter that you fly yourself with no GPS, etc? $20.

We're hoping they break that down a little more
