But none of the masks compared with the neck fleece, which had 110 percent droplet transmission (10 percent higher than not wearing a mask).

Is this the same group that verified the guilt of the lacrosse team?

I wear a neck gaiter because it’s acceptable. They are easily the most breathable thing, so I can see where they’re probably not as effective.
Same; wore it because of the mandate and also because it was the most comfortable as I often wear it fishing. Placebo... but wgaf? Karen’s probably; can’t wait for the: Hey, did you know that mask you are wearing puts us all at risk?

I’ve been saying this shite from the start. If you are going to make a mask mandate, make a fricking mask mandate. Don’t allow gaiter style masks made of breathable fabric. Don’t allow old shirts, don’t allow bandanas. Require it to be of sturdy material that would stop droplet transmission, because If you make a mask mandate but allow all the above, all you are doing us putting something in place to make you feel like you’re doing something but you’re not actually doing squat.
Rant over.

I am surprised to see quite a few have significant drops in droplet counts.
However, I'm sure it's a more "controlled" tests result, not taking into account how much people touch their faces adjusting them, continue to use unwashed ones, not wearing them properly all the time, etc.
It reminds me of some word problems from engineering school where we were to "assume no friction" in calculating some forces. But, when you actually tested it in the lab environment, the results would vary greatly due to, um, friction.

The article is a little deceptive. The cloth masks are actually more like 10-50% not .1 - .4%. So the n95 masks are 100 times better than cloth and some cloth masks are only 50% better than no mask.
That does count that the study tested fitted masks or best case fit. A poorly fit mask may reduce efficiency by 90%. The plant baws no this.
So if you are a mask person, only get near the people with n95 masks.

frick I just ordered a couple more of them

These results are not surprising in a lab.
I'm waiting for a study that tracks a mask in the real world.
The dirty, ill fitting, improperly handled, improperly sanitized, improperly stored mask as it moves across our environment.
Those results would drive any mask advantage into the ground.

I prefer wearing a surgical mask to a gaiter. Not really sure why.

gaiters don't fit right on me. they fall right off if I'm talking.

Which is like 50% of people
So why are the infections slowing?
Hint: herd immunity. Won’t hear Duke talk about that

Which one is the worst? That’s the one I’m gonna wear to LSU everyday
Posted on 8/10/20 at 7:54 pm to OysterPoBoy
yes it does. It collects virus and then folds and moves around. Tons of moving facial virus surface area is worse than not wearing a mask at all.
Wear freaking approved masks and don't ever put them on backwards or wrong. Otherwise, you could increase your risk.

Duke Med School Attacking the Neck Gaiter
Seems like we have an unlimited amount of opinions out there. I just hope those medical persons are also looking at treatments and vaccines. Ultimately those have to be better than face masks or neck gaiters.

Well fold it over 3x. Bam, solved.
Go Gaiter.
Go Gaiter.

This, and I think they only testing droplets produced by talking. What about coughing and sneezing where the droplets are moving at a faster rate? Do more get pushed through the "cheese grater" producing more small droplets when not wearing a mask would produce one large droplet falling to the floor?
