PE electrical power was easier than the FE for me, the FE had a much broader range of subjects which included computer engineering questions that i took no courses on in school
I finished the PE way earlier than the time allotted

Just pick the right study course. My civil friends think EET has the best one.

I thought the PE exam was a joke (almost 30 years ago). I am pretty confident I could take it today and still do fine on it.
Apparently is all multiple choice now, so yeah. It's even easier now because you can use test taking skills more effectively.

Never took the PE as I got more into the business side of the company quickly.
The FE I found to be very easy. I studied a lot for sure, but finished the morning and afternoon sections with tons of time to spare. Like I was worried I missed entire sections of the test.
I feel like I'd have a hard time with the PE today as it's been 10+ years since I was using that part of my brain regularly. Would take a lot of refreshing. If it's at all close to the FE in terms of difficulty, it might be worth giving it a shot though just to say I have it.

FE (Mechanical) was far more difficult than the PE (Controls) IMO.
Controls and HVAC look like Greek until you dive in and realize, this ain't that bad. Machine design and fluids are just the opposite.

That's good to know. My son will be a senior this fall in Civil. He's living with my niece (who's a PE) this summer doing his internship. She told him the FE was easy, so we shall see.

i did testmasters.
Dr. Israni and his staff do a great job at teaching PE material. I took the course for my FE and passed.
He told us about how they had one guy who took the testmasters course and got his PE in: electrical, mechanical, naval architecture, control systems, and fire protection. They asked him why he got his PE in so many different disciplines and he said "i just like taking standardized tests"
I hope i never meet that psychopath in my life

Tell him to take it asap especially while he is still in school or right after he graduates.

I did not take the Civil PE (I took Mechanical-Thermo-fluid Systems) but if you compare Civil Environmental to the FE the FE is probably harder. Civil Structural is on another level of difficulty.

FE [EIT] was the more difficult for me, since it requires multi-discipline understandings. Took it while a senior. Also, it may be I arrived about 5 minutes before the test start after a night out. I and my HP45 took that test and passed first time.
PE - Structural was not that easy, since my senior "design" classes (3 of the) did not include structural design. Took this exam after 5 years after graduations. No study classes; just retained knowledge and work experience. I had a better calculator.

I had never even heard of the FE exam, but he did say he'd be taking it during the school year at some point.

The FE is not harder than any PE

FE is usually taken your senior year after you've taken all the course fundamental to engineering for all engineers. Your senior year you are taking engineering electives that are concentrating on your major.

If one passes the FE exam in Louisiana, are you eligible to take the PE exam?
In Civil, you have to work under a PE for 4 years before taking PE.

I'm pretty sure that's for all disciplines not just Civil. And it's working under a PE for 3 years if you have a masters.

Don't think this is right anymore. I believe you can take the PE whenever, just can't be licensed until you've got the 4 years experience.

Took my FE in my last semester of school, studied for a weekend and treated it like a big final exam nothing crazy. I passed and felt confident walking out of the test. If you truly grasp the general engineering concepts the FE is not a very difficult test in my opinion. The reference is given to you and as long as you know what formulas/tables you are looking for you can CTRL-F your way through it.
The stigma that FE is hard I think stems from the old "yea I passed it but its much harder than you think" crowd. Its not hard, its not supposed to be, it is really just a check to make sure you learned the "Fundamentals" while in school.
Now it is funny that I had my first night of studying for my PE last night and see this thread today. I purchased the on-demand EET prep course for Civil - Construction. I am trying too keep my laid back, don't overthink it attitude toward this test but I'll say, the course outline and amount of information is a bit intimidating. First session was on concrete mix design, he spent 2.5 hours lecturing on it. All that for maybe 1-4 questions of 80 total.

Retired civil engineer here….It’s been so long I can’t really remember if one was harder than the other. I would say both were equally difficult. I took the FE in the spring I graduated and attended the study sessions beforehand. I studied my arse off for the PE….from June to October.
But I was lucky on the PE. One problem was the exact duplicate of a problem in the study book. I just copied it number for the number. Another problem was related to bridge design which was my job for 4 years before taking the exam. Another problem was to determine a functional classification of a highway which was very similar to a problem in the study book. All I needed to do was substitute numbers.
So thinking about it…the FE may have been harder but only because of the luck I had with the PE.
