20 degree difference between the return and supply.
Not 20 degree difference between the outside ambient temperature and the temperature inside.

I have mine set to 74 during the day so my unit isn't constantly running 24/7, but I also have a portable A/C in the living room and my kids have a window unit in theirs. At night, I set unit to 70 and turn off portable and window units. That's the best their going to get from me.
