It's not the teachers job to fix your kids problems - unless those problems are directly related to academics.

I’m just annoyed at the teachers who have had a “vacation” from March - current (it will most likely be extended through the fall term) and are still being paid their full salary.

We worked through the third week of May - just like we were paid to do. The only difference was classes were online.

Right now we are on our regularly scheduled summer break but a lot of us our busy trying to prepare for what will certainly be an unusual beginning to the new year. (Louisiana has released guidelines for opening schools in August) Lesson plans have to be adjusted.

I didn’t get that memo. I hosted online meetings with some students today. And it technically is summer for me now.

Teachers are the equivalent “facility maintenance” workers in state government. They are inherently lazy and and self aggrandizing.

This is one of those times where I would ask what it is that you do. Do you really think laziness isn’t a problem for other employers?

Legislature is making sure no govt employees get a raise this year. All funding bills have been amended to say so.

Funny. I haven’t heard the first teacher voice concern about the academic deficit created by the March 2020 school closures.

you haven’t asked. Every teacher I know is and was concerned.

Teachers are paid to educate students, not raise them.

I bet you're a wonderful parent.

Teacher/coach here...I have certainly been out of work since March, but it's not been a complete vacation. No trips. No fun outings. Instead, I spent all of March, April, and May creating assignments posted online and giving feedback where I can(assignments were even deemed not mandatory for students to complete by the parish, only optional for any students who wanted to continue learning throughout those months), contacting my students on a weekly basis to check in and see how they were doing and if they had any questions or had been working any, contacting every single student to allow them choose what courses they would like to take next year, have spent no less than 30 hours in online professional development and staff meetings, and had begun our summer athletic workouts in mid June for 9-10 hours a day to accommodate all our kids while maintaining social distancing, until our parish was told to halt workouts for another few weeks. That being said, the people sitting at home on unemployment making $827 a week or whatever are bringing home more than I am.

If teachers didn't have to waste time teaching your kids manners, social skills, and other basic life skills that in the past parents were responsible, teachers may have more time to focus on education.

Nobody is telling teachers to do that though and you're kinda proving my point. Also, don't act like all kids in school are shitheads with no manners.

What problems did you refer to in the OP, if not the problems stated above?

What are the problems you believe teachers should fix?

What about the parents?

Your an idiot. My wife is a teacher and she was doing virtual teaching until the end of May and earlier this week she started doing lesson plans for next year. She’s definitely not on “vacation”

As a teacher I wish I had the support from admin to do just that.

This x 1000.

I’ve said this once, and I’ll say it again. The last three months I’ve seen two of my former students get arrested and charged with murder. They aren’t legally able to drink yet, and they’ve probably earned lengthy stays in a cell. It’s tough. I knew them as kids entering their teens and dealing with normal ‘kid’ problems.

Society has enabled many bad habits, and poor behavior in schools is one of them. Unfortunately, I think the OP has kids. He hasn’t a clue what he is talking about.

That's the parents' job. Shitty parenting is a huge part of the reason why schools suck now.

It’s the only reason, which is why schools that have students with good parents also have good teachers, they demand it.

they can't because of the pansy parents who will take up for their little johnnie instead of back the teacher.
