In EBR parish, we ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the summer. Fun times. That doesn't even hold a candle to some of the shite I saw up the road.

Are they still sending them down the hill to Catahoula?

These three right here combined wouldn't make the field in a third world country tournament.

Any Black Belt county could easily be considered third world. My church does it’s mission trip to Sawyerville, AL.

Not every black belt County has 10 times the national average per capita in tuberculosis.. that would be Perry.

Your church should do mission trips to Gee's Bend in Wilcox, if you could fight through the language barrier.

Do you have a link to this? Doesn't appear to be a video in the article you posted.

Sounds like the Sheriff is about like this guy?

The doc at the hospital that he was brought to, stated that he was treated for hypothermia and had a rectal temp of 72 degrees

I mean, the dude had a bad enough 2-week run. Couldn't they have saved him the thermometer up the arse and just taken his temp orally? I doubt that 1 degree difference in the readings really made that much of a difference at that point.

I moved away in 1999. When I was a kid, there were hunting clubs in South AL, that wouldn't let you join if you were from Walker County.

My family was one of them. When we prosecuted Walker County poachers
they set our land on fire.

They were prosecuted for this also.

Absolute White Trash.

The video contradicts an earlier statement from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office claiming Mitchell was “alert and conscious” when he left the jail for transport to a local hospital.

Odd they didn't call an ambulance, said he was "alert and conscious", and transported him to the ER themselves. The only video released so far, was from a whistleblower who was fired immediately. The Sheriff's Department has not released any videos of his incarceration. Wonder why?

Sup with Bama and their jails lately? Some weird stuff always happening in those jails

A big mess. Overcrowded, outdated, understaffed, rampant drugs, numerous deaths over the few years, a parole board that rarely grants anyone parole especially minorities. The DOJ has told them numerous times it needs to be cleaned up, and their only solution so far is using Covid funds to build more prisons.

But this was at a local jail, not a state run prison. Not that it matters.

But I couldn't imagine dealing with all those Walker County meth heads on a daily basis.

Then don't get into law enforcement. Dealing with criminals is your fricking job.

So in top of the civil rights case they have against them for killing this person, they also likely have a civil case for retaliatory actions from the employee they fired. Not to mention possible criminal charges for any of the sheriff’s deputies involved.

And every municipality in the state will see even more insurance premium increases as a result.

I don't think people understand how horrible our jails are. I'm not saying they should be anything nice, it's jail,

The jails should be bad but the problem is we put too many non violent offenders in jail

They should be reserved for murderers, rapist, sexual predators, and big time drug dealers, and habitual offenders of robbery, etc

Small time drug users, prostitutes, white collar criminals, even people who have committed things like vehicle manslaughter unless its your 3rd dui shouldn't spend much time if any in prison

Based on that video, I honestly can't imagine why. Looks like they're just loading him into a car.

Yep. Just loading an "alert and conscious" man into a police, in order to take him to the hospital. Hmmmm....if only there are vehicles, loaded with medical equipment, and operated by medically trained personnel.

A huge problem with mental health in our country, not just in Alabama, is that we have closed or severely defunded most public mental health facilities

Well but how do you unwind mental health vs drug abuse vs homelessness vs petty crime as those elements are usually so intermeshed in these cases that its just a chicken vs egg situation.

There are millions of people who due to their choices or their mental state are unable to function or exist in our society.

Do you:
A) stack them in a giant section 8 building with each other
B) Put them in prison for stealing to support their habits
C) House them in a mental hospital

And ultimately how much of the difference between these options is just semantics? You aren't going to fix the underlying mental issues in 90% of the patients no matter where they are kept and even if you do the recidivism rate for petty crimes and repeat drug use will catch many of the ones who are able to get out for a period of time.

They need to be treated humanely no matter what, but lets not pretend that mental health facilities are a panacea.

Down in Conecuh County, they may not know you can diagnose tuberculosis yet.

My time in EBRPP was in 2015 and I went to Catahoula first when I left there. I imagine they're still sending them there and to Pine Prairie.

That's another fricked up environment. I was in Catahoula waiting for a pre-trial hearing and I'm in there with people already sentenced for 20+ years to life. That shouldn't happen.
