I don't think you'd be disappointed at all with the Expedition. Have one as a work vehicle and it's really comfortable.

New Yukon with the diesel.

What is your daily mileage with the diesel? I never owned a diesel, but have been told that short trips are not ideal because it leads to DPF clogging. 3-4 days a week, my daily commute is just 9 min to work and back. About twice a month we travel from Lafayette to New Orleans, and travel to Florida/Tennessee a couple times a year. Would love a diesel engine just for the long trips.

I've been looking at the 2026 Suburban Z71 and 2026 Yukon XL Denali. I have 4 kids and still somehow manage to get by with my 2012 Hyundai Sonata. My wife drives a 2023 Honda Odyssey Touring, which we put over 60k miles on it already because we have to use it for those trips to Nola and all family vacations. The Sequoia is too small for those trips, which is a shame, because I really like those.

Is 6.2L engine really necessary for the Suburban or Yukon XL? We're not towing anything.

The new QX80 is fine. Not sure if it warrants the price

I almost bought one of these this week until i found out about all of the electrical gremlins they have.

Ended up with a Nissan Armada Platinum.

Not sure about the 4x4 and Unfortunately not available in the U.S., but the ultimate in “big carry vehicles” is the Lexus LM500H.

Do these have the same engine issues as the Tundras?

Nah. The 5.3L has enough smoke to move them adequately. And the newer 5.3L V8 is actually a very reliable option - much better than a few years ago. They switched to an old school oil pump setup that seemed to have all but eliminated the lifter headaches.

The 6.2 is much faster though.

The GM products are honestly the best full sized SUV right now.

Yes. Except that Toyota hasn’t recalled the hybrid models yet. They are seeing widespread failures - worst in industry and very uncharacteristic of Toyota.

The older model LC/LX were 250k vehicles.

The current gen models are nowhere near as reliable from a powertrain standpoint so as long as you know that going in I think they’re great looking vehicles.

We have a GX 550 and love it. But it is not a full size SUV. Same as a 4 runner on the inside.

Can anyone comment if a diesel engine makes sense for a 6-mile round trip commute 3-4 days a week, and a couple 5-6 hour round trips/month?

Yes, the motor would be fine, but you need to do the math to see if it makes sense for you.

I had an AT4 pickup with it. I drove 600 mile trips in it, so it made sense for me. I always came out ahead in a smaller diesel than a gas burner.

The main culprit of clogging DPFs is letting them idle.

One thing you need to do religiously is run some kind of diesel additive for lubricity. I always ran something with every tank, and I never had any high pressure fuel pump problems.
