You have a high chance of going to the morgue in Baton, regardless of where you are.

"Go-To" area in Baton Rouge
Any area that has streets named after presidents, states or Indians

In BR there is no one area. You bar hop all over the city.

BR is not as terrible as this board portrays
Yes it is. There are some decent restaurants but not one worth traveling from outside the immediate BR area.
LSU and Exxon are the only things preventing BR from being Jackson, MS, and Hell, they have better restaurants than BR.
Considering BR is an hour away from Cajun country and an hour away from Creole country, it can’t decide any type of food style.

But baton Rouge does have those things. And there is a lot more industry than just Exxon. Not to mention the state government. So it's not really fair to keep comparing it to Jackson Mississippi.

Gardere between Burbank and River Road.
Lots of options.

I’m legitimately terrified.

Perkins Overpass is usually where we bring guests. Drinks at Colonel’s Club followed by dinner at BLDG 5 is a go-to itinerary. If you feel like staying out a little longer after dinner you have a lot of walkable options there with different vibes.
Government Street is a close second. More variety but also more spread out so not quite as walkable. The area around Rocca’s and Mid-City Beer Garden is good and you can walk from place to place.

Ehhhhh
The overpass area is definitely the best spot in BR

They whip out this comparison every chance they get. It’s true that some of the challenges they face are similar, but the population of the BR area is a good bit larger than the Jackson area and our neighboring markets are very close by (New Orleans MSA, Lafayette MSA) and are both relatively healthy despite some headwinds. Jackson, on the other hand, isn’t close to much of anything. And the economy in BR is a hell of a lot more diverse. Other than being a state capital in the south, they don’t have a ton in common.

That wasn’t the question.
No one is saying that Baton Rouge is some sort of foodie destination.
The question was if someone is in town for say an LSU game where do you tell them to go?
Of which there are many solid options.
No one is going to tell someone from Birmingham to travel to BR to eat. And realistically it’s impossible to cultivate that kind of scene with such a historical food destination like NOLA so close

What exactly is a ‘cool bar’?
It honestly depends on your preference. Do you rather a low key dive bar? Or do you like to go somewhere where work people all go to hang out especially Thursday or Fridays? Do you like to only go on weekend nights where the crowd is more up beat or a place where there is a decent crowd but off the radar a bit? Do you want to listen to live music? If you don't drink then you are less likely to go to a bar, although you can go and still hang out with friends.. Drink on a club soda.

Chris, what's your drink of choice when you're hanging out, and what kind of bars do you like?
Sports bar, dive bar, live music, dancing, skrippers
what's your favorite
