nothing better than the 'oh did I mention I shite blood' as you are wrapping up an appointment made for medication refill.
I have 6 other things I want addressed, but am just now mentioning in a 10 minute med refil spot. but patients are grossly unaware what this does to the visit, and everyone else behind them.
75% of the problem is the fellow patients treating the appointment like a reservation at chilis.

Appreciate the perspective of the medical professionals on here, but I will reiterate. All of you are talking about known unknowns. And the process you've created asks the patients (your sick customers) to completely bear the brunt of the uncertainty.
You know you're going to lose time over the day and you put your own profits over the patients convenience. This is bad, and don't give me the excuses about saving lives by explaining how to take medicine to little old ladies, etc. Schedule fewer appointments and show respect to your customers. I'm lucky enough to have a concierge doctor. He shows up exactly on time every time. I guess he never has to explain how to take medicine? LOL. Again, restaurants get this right all the time. Maybe hire a maitre'd to run your appointment book!

….so you’re agreeing with me

its pretty awful of a comparison
I know there are differences. Doctors wear labcoats and not servers aprons too. The analogy is in avg time of visit vs. number of visits booked. Restaurants are more equipped to handle the unforeseen because there are more available/qualified staff members than a doctor’s office at any 1 time, agreed. If this is a terrible analogy what’s your better analogy?

yes it matters a lot.
the fact you don't get this demonstrates the lack of insight
They're both complex queuing problems. Restaurants solved theirs due to competitive incentives. Doctors haven't because they don't care.

You sound like you're a doc or a medical professional. So here's a question for you. Do you ask patients to confirm reservations by text or phone call? If so, do you also text or call them to tell them you are running late (e.g. more than 45 mins). If not, why don't you do that? Respectfully curious to understand your thinking on this.

When the appointed patient doesn’t show, why don’t they just call the next one in line that is present and punctual? No shows shouldn’t be the problem.

Can you order shite that's not on the menu? Can you get a reservation for 2 but show up with 8 and expect to get seated? Do restaurants have to write down everything that's in the dish, how they prepared it and give you directions on how to eat it while dealing with a third party for payment?
I've waited for a table for hours at numerous restaurants. Don't act like that shite runs smooth.

They overbook appointments and pile you in their waiting rooms. Then they blow past your appointment time as if you have zero value. They oughta be paying me for taking off of work just to sit here for over an hour.
Why don’t these folks schedule more reasonably? If they have “surgery” then don’t book appointments. Better yet, they should give a discount on the bill. Sheesh.

Solutions are concierge medicine or don't go to the doctor. Throw down some cash or STFU.

Two responses. A) You know all this is happening, so why don’t you plan for it to manage your patients time better. B) Don’t assume you know how restaurants really operate. Food safety is a pretty big deal.

The fact that you correctly note concierge doctors solve the problem proves my point that this is a business model issue, not a medical issue as some on here are claiming.

g, so why don’t you plan for it to manage your patients time better.
I can't control Jim Bob showing up with a chainsaw injury or grandma's indigestion being a hear attack. You can't plan for the unknown. Then you have patients that frick up your schedule.
Maybe if people tipped us for good service or saving their fricking lives we'd be more motivated! Every thought of that? See me on time and you get a hundred cash?
You're right, we don't give a shite. I don't double book and in fact, I under book knowing that it will fill up and I still can't satisfy everyone, everyday. So, I don't give a single shite anymore. I do what I can, if you don't like it then go elsewhere, but don't call me when your arse needs a real doctor.
I don't bitch when I have to wait at a doctor's office. I sit in the waiting room like everyone else. I could pull strings and go right back, but I don't. Just like I'll wait for a table at a restaurant I really want to eat at, or I'll wait for a contractor who is good (and those mf'ers never finish on time or budget!)
But when I schedule and see less, just as many people bitch about not being seen sooner. It's no win, so y'all can all get together and eat a big ol'bag of doctor dicks while y'all swap stories about sending us invoices for your time.

Agreed. The only reason I haven't switched to concierge is because I don't want to abandon my patients that can't afford it. However, no raise from insurers for 10 fricking years, higher overhead and bitchy pt's are soon to change that. I can 100% drop insurance all together, cut my staff, focus on industrial medicine and cash pts and make more than I currently do.
People are going to bitch themselves out of good doctors unless they can shell out the cash. It just feels shitty to do, but I'm tired of always hearing bitching no matter what. I even have signs telling people to haul arse if they don't like it. Still can't get'em to leave.
ETA-I'm a little salty after I had one call today to be worked in for a "kidney infection". Did have to wait 2 hours because she showed up later than we told her to and I was neck deep in doing new hire physicals as scheduled. Then she bitches about the wait, which was 30 minutes longer because she stuck her head out the door and bitched about the wait, so I skipped her arse a couple more times. When I do see her, she immediately starts in about some neck issues and wanting an MRI, needing yearly labs and a mammogram and a bunch of other shite. That's why you get to wait you stupid frick!!!!!!!
Sorry...had to vent.

Try being a veteran and allowing them to take care of your health at VA.

I am not buying this poor doctor routine.
PCP average is $250k
Specialist $350k
Surgeons $500k
Hell residents complain about making more than the average household income while they are still learning. That's household, not individual.

Depends on where you live
When my wife and I moved to Minneapolis, we actually had our visits passed over because we weren’t signed in 30 minutes prior to our appointments.
We never had a single appointment where we weren’t called back early.
Crazy.

Ain't nothing in that oath with putting up with dumbshits or staying on schedule. I done read it a thousand times to make sure. I'll still give you quality care, but I don't have to like it!
