This is what i struggled with as well.

quote:

So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street?
When gang banging make me kill a n**** blacker than me?
Hypocrite!

During the live performance, no way that myself nor half the audience could understand these lyrics (which i don't think he even sang as he only did the front end of the song). He did start by saying he was the biggest hypocrite of 2015... but even then, this didn't come out clearly.

Had he said... "So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street? Because I'm a hypocrite, gang banging killing N**** blacker than me" then it would have made senese.

i would have understood that but i guess i don't have that kind of a "artist" brain to understand why he said it like that.

Yeah, I bet it was. I have heard the name Kendrick Lamar a thousand times but I don't know why I thought he was an actor.

The song starts by basically saying that outsiders hate black people, at the end of the song he states that black people want to cry when someone non-black kills a black person, but want to ignore the fact that there is more black on black crime than there is non-black on black crime. So, trying to point fingers elsewhere, when their community is where is finger needs to be pointed is hypocritical.

Saying that others hate black people, when in actuality they hate themselves, is indeed hypocritical.

I figured that you would probably agree with his assessment

That poster wasn't espousing "beliefs" or an opinion.

The real problem with his performance was not the content, but rather that it does not constitute "music" as I have come to appreciate it in my lifetime. Have a rap awards show for that shite.

Well he's one of the most talented lyricists of all time no matter what the genre. Many rappers even write songs for other people outside the genre these days. Rap is definitely music, I'm sorry to tell you. It takes insane amount of talent to even conceptualize the album that Kendrick just put out, which is why he was nominated 11 times. One less than the GOAT Michael Jackson. People on the OT don't realize how much actually goes into making rap songs. Many rappers sing these days too!

YOU are definitely his crowd. You are infatuated with black culture. You are also low on the totem pole when it comes to intelligence, which explains everything.

quote:

I'm the biggest hypocrite of 2015
Once I finish this, witnesses will convey just what I mean
Been feeling this way since I was 16, came to my senses
You never liked us anyway, frick your friendship, I meant it
I'm African-American, I'm African
I'm black as the moon, heritage of a small village
Pardon my residence
Came from the bottom of mankind
My hair is nappy, my dick is big, my nose is round and wide
You hate me don't you?
You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture
You're frickin' evil I want you to recognize that I'm a proud monkey
You vandalize my perception but can't take style from me
And this is more than confession
I mean I might press the button just so you know my discretion
I'm guardin' my feelins, I know that you feel it
You sabotage my community, makin' a killin'
You made me a killer, emancipation of a real ****

I've never listed to KL knowingly, and don't really care outside of cruising this thread to understand what people are talking about.

That said, those are not very inclusive lyrics.
