Good luck man. Thats the thing about it being hard to quit. Not only do you develope a physical addiction to it but also develope a psychological addiction. Thinking of all the good times you had and now are missing is just as bad as you needing it to calm your nerves.

Congrats bro.
Try not to look at the big picture. Just wake up and say “i won’t drink today”.
You’re probably going to notice some physical changes. You’ll definitely start craving sugar.
Focus on the positive

Everyone should read that article. I'm currently taking naltrexone because I got to the point where I realized I was drinking too much when I got home from work. It works. Completely killed the desire I had to drink. But you have to commit to keeping up with the medication each day. One caveat though, as of last year most insurance plans stopped covering it. It runs about 70 bucks for a 30 day supply.

Still cheaper than drinking every day

Definitely. That was more of a heads up in case anyone gets their doctor to prescribe it and are expecting insurance to cover.

Indeed, my point was not so much to say it might not help but that addiction is not one size fits all.

Does it make you sick if you drink while taking it?

two Four Lokos and maybe another pint of beer,
so you were having 3 drinks a day?
Eta. Granted I don’t know what four loco is
1 pint of vodka (80 proof) has 4.87 oz pure alcohol
one 24 oz four loco has 2.88 OZ pure alcohol.. X three = 8.64OZ pure alcohol

I've never been drunk in my life.
However, I type this as I finish off a row of cookies. Sweets are my addiction and if I drank I'd be dead by now.
Work out 3-5 times per week, train BJJ, and am 6'0" 190lbs. If I could stop eating sweets I'd be a shredded 175.
Just cant do it

Hang in there one moment at a time. We can only live in the present. I’ve got about 14 years in.

I probably should do the same thing. Switched to white claw thinking it would help. Meh.
Congrats though. Quite an accomplishment

Anyway, good luck to OP. I've been in a bad rut, too, drinking 4 or 5 nights week for a while. Just four days off now and I feel way less anxiety. I think it can be a neverending cycle of anxiety/depression if you drink to take the edge off every night.

The stories and anecdotes in this thread are a good example of why I don't drink and am really glad I never developed a taste for alcohol.
To everyone in this thread, best of luck to your fight against this addiction. I'm rooting for y'all as we're all better when someone overcomes their personal demons.

Watched a friend die of liver disease. It wasn't an easy death. He quit drinking but it was too late.

Keep it up Baw! My BIL is a alcoholic and it is painful to watch.

Watched 3 friends die before age 51
2 cirrhosis, 1 liver cancer
All drank nearly every day.
You gotta give your liver some healing time, or drink very little. I was a binge drinker, but spread it out is why I'm still alive.
It took a year before the cravings went away, to where I thought I could have fun without drinking.
Good luck.
