This gives one an idea of how these characters would look in live-action movies directed by Christopher Nolan.

Can somebody who understands all this technology explain to me why AI can't do hands correctly?

The position and articulation of hands is the most variable aspect of human photography.

"AI" is just an aggregation of matching features and markers, and as such the more static features like the head come through fine, but aggregating a lot of different hand positions and angles generates some obvious errors, such as extra fingers and other weirdness.

My 2 pennies.

They almost all look like some take on someone famous. Like Shaggy looks damn near identical to Chris Cornell, minus the red hair.

As far as I understand, you're correct. It can compile a general idea of what it's trying to produce from other examples, but AI completely lacks understanding of function that is innate to us.

It knows that there are a bunch of fleshy bits in that area of the model its trying to create, but has no idea what a finger is or does or is capable of.
