Let me guess, you have a nice stable job with little to no fear of losing it and are fortunate enough to work from home.
Because only someone in that position could just so nonchalantly tell people who are struggling to figure out how they're going to make ends meet now "tough shite, your plight isn't important."

People just aren't willing to make a temporary sacrifice to make that happen.

The people who are telling people to just suck it up and it is just a temporary sacrifice are the ones who have nothing to worry about.
The people who lose their businesses, homes, and livelihoods sure aren’t screaming that from the rooftops.

My employment, like most others, won't last with this being dragged on for months & months. The quicker this is over, the quicker everyone can go back to normal. That won't happen so long as people take a lackadaisical approach to it.

You should probably have told that to the person he was replying to who was the actual one to bring politics in to this with is "MAGA" snide comment.

Tell that to the employees that are wondering how they are going to pay to keep their roof over their head and food on the table for their family.
Maybe they can craft themselves a new house with fabric and fake fruit?

But you're employed now. Thousands out there aren't. And many of those businesses that have closed will never reopen.
But frick them, you're good and that's all that matters.

Most of them are likely college-aged kids who are at home from school with mommy and daddy providing them the creature comforts of home.

hobby lobby isn't hiring?

quote:Actually, the more we quarantine and allow for the slow spread just to keep the peak from topping over the hospital capacity, the longer this has to play out.
The quicker this is over, the quicker everyone can go back to normal. That won't happen so long as people take a lackadaisical approach to it.
“Flattening the curve” means a slow rise, a long peak, and a slow fall. It’s to protect the hospitals ICU beds. Period. That’s it. Numbers won’t drastically fall with this method because there’s nothing to completely stop the spread. Literally, staying at home makes this last longer not shorter.
Edit: If your goal is for this to be over quicker, then we do nothing but remind people to wash hands and stay home when sick. We could have added in the quarantine of the old and sick to help the hospitals but apparently those people are too dumb to do that on their own so we all have to suffer for them.

1 week in and we are already seeing stories of places saying "frick this"
and people think we are going to continue with this till June

People die every day. And in much, much larger numbers than this disease is killing.

And you've made it clear you don't give a flying frick about anyone suffering in this shutdown. You only care about your opinion, one being made from the safety of your house you can continue to afford the mortgage for.
You, like many others, are basing your entire position on emotion and what you "feel" is the right thing to do, not what is the rational thing to do.

See, I think this gets missed.
If Covid spreads, there comes an unsustainable point. What we're trying to do right now is bite a one month bullet to prevent aftershocks at least until we know we have effective treatment.
It's not a lack of empathy for workers affected, it's recognizing that herd immunity generally needs 60-70% of a population, which is over 200 million Americans. The unchecked spread of Covid can turn a one month shutdown into 9 months to a year of a slow bleed.
The hope with this is that opportunities will begin reopening in May. Hobby Lobby isn't exactly helping that goal. A half-arse quarantine can get you the worst of both worlds.

quote:And 90% of those are preventable in some fashion. This is also preventable and the government has a chance to install measures to mitigate it, but people like you don't want that to happen. You want people to die for your own benefit. One can only hope you pay the price for it.
People die every day. And in much, much larger numbers than this disease is killing.
