Dude if you want to be absurdly obtuse I cant prove you are not a figment of my imagination either but what Im explaining is well known physics and astronomy.
Redshift and blueshift describe the change in the frequency of a light wave depending on whether an object is moving toward or away from us.
When an object is moving away from us, the light from the object is known as redshift, and when an object is moving towards us, the light from the object is known as blueshift. We can measure these frequencies. Couple that with our knowledge of lightspeed we can determine the approximate age of star we view. This is a very simple explanation.

So why cant they do the math to watch the comet take out the dinosaurs? We should be able to point a telescope at space and watch a giant comet approach
