My grandpa always pronounced it Martin-ez for the people that he knew, but his first language was also French.

I would pronounce it Mar-ti-nez

Grew up saying Mart In Ez but now say Mar Tee Nez unless it is a person I know pronounces it Mart In Ez (usually an old Cajun).

My wife grew up with some iminez's and they pronounced it Jim In Ez as opposed to He Min Ez.

I always ask someone how they pronounce their name then respect their version. Same as when I asked Brett Favre.

At some point, some people try to squeeze the ethnicity out of the surname.

The Cajun/French is being squeezed out of a lot of surnames these days

In Lafourche/Terrebonne Parish it's Martin-Ez for the locals.

The imports with that last name are Mar Tee Nez
