For the right job, I'd commute 1 hour each way.

I think that's my limit, though.

ETA: I may actually be open to commuting to Baton Rouge from New Orleans, but only if I had to do it 3 days a week or less. That would require a substantial pay increase, and I wouldn't be open to commuting longer than that.

I'd also be open to consulting with a plane trip commute on Monday morning and Thursday night.

Unless I got a significant pay raise, I wouldn't take a job where I had to commute more than 30 minutes.

I'm commuting from Charlotte to San Francisco right now... 5 hrs.

Just for perspective, it could be worse.

Nope, its a woman who wouldn't know what a transmitter is and the company starts with a L

My commute is a 10 minute walk. I'd say anything over 15 miles (30 min with traffic) would be too far for me.

I commute 35 miles each way now, my longest of my career.

It's not bad. I use the time to clear my head and I started listening to audio books instead of radio.

I commuted from Metairie to BR for a almost two years. It wasn't awful, but it definitely took its toll. I'm very happy to have a 10 minute drive to work in the AM and 15 or so minute PM drive back.

there are plenty of salesman that drive 200 miles a day, everyday visiting and calling on customers. Driving 1 hour to your office where you sit at a desk for 6-8 hours then drive another hour to get home is not that big of a deal

Those salesmen are either getting reimbursed for their mileage or are given a car allowance possibly even driving a company vehicle, not to mention that driving/travelling is part of their job description. For a lot of people the extra gas costs of commuting an hour might not be feasible. I have no idea how some of the people where I work get by when I know what they get paid and can guess on how much gas it costs them to get to and from work

For me, 20 minutes max. I had a commute of 45 minutes in the morning and 1 hour after work and all I could think about is what I could be doing instead of sitting in a car. But, if it's temporary...1 year max, then I could deal with an hour.

I drive Hammond-BR every day. Its not as bad as it sounds. I get to work before traffic in the morning, and it takes me right at an hour in the evenings.

Commuted from Lafayette to BR for two years. Wasn't bad at all.

Like many people said, anything beyond an hour is too far unless the money is damn good.

I once had a 1 hour 30 minute each way commute for a job, did that for 4+ years. I was OK with it. Gave me time to think about my day on the way, and time to unwind afterward.

I wouldn't want to do it again, but I'm a lot older now.

I commute about 1 hour (little traffic) each way. It's worth it for the right job. I don't know about long term, though (2 years +).

45 minutes is my commute & it's not too bad..

Used to do suburbs to downtown Houston, that could be anywhere from 45min-2 hours. Now that sucked.

If you're cummuting 1hr for a 125K job, may be worth it. If you are going for 50K/ yr, probably not.
